Maintenance Technician, Electrical

Reporting to the Area Manager Maintenance, you will ensure our electrical systems and equipment is safely and effectively maintained in line with Terra Nova expectations. You will collaborate with other team members aboard our Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) facility, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintain the integrity and perform safe and efficient maintenance of all electrical systems and equipment
  • Respond quickly and effectively to problems and breakdowns
  • Capture data in support of equipment condition monitoring
  • Plan, coordinate and communicate daily electrical maintenance activities  
  • Adhere to the permit to work system while carrying out maintenance activities
  • Participate as a part of an offshore emergency response team
  • Report all accidents, near misses and hazardous conditions

Minimum Requirements:

  • Five or more years of electrical experience in an industrial environment, preferably in an offshore oil and gas environment
  • Interprovincial Journeyman’s Certificate (Electrical) or Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology 
  • Hazardous Areas Equipment Training 
  • Working knowledge of regulatory and industry codes applicable to the electrical discipline 
  • Experience with HV / LV power generation and distribution systems 
  • Comfortable testing and configuring Motor Protection Relays (willingness to learn) 
  • Comfortable Completing Switching Procedures on HV Switchboards 
  • Familiar with Black Start Procedures 
  • Experience with AC / DC drive systems and PLC controls 
  • Effective communication skills (written, oral and computer) 
  • Proficient working with a computerized maintenance management system
  • An understanding of control of work processes and systems
  • Effective communication and conflict resolution skills (written, oral and computer)
  • Collaboration skills in order to achieve the best results and deliver the most value

Location and Other Key Information:

  • You will work onboard the Terra Nova FPSO.  Transportation to / from the FPSO is provided from St. John’s, Newfoundland
  • As this an offshore position, you will be required to maintain mandatory training and certification for continued offshore work
  • The shift schedule is a 21 days on / 21 days off rotation, 12-hour shifts
  • Pay rate in accordance with Appendix A of the Collective Agreement between Terra Nova Employers’ Organization and Unifor Local 2121
  • Qualified residents of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador will be given first consideration in the staffing of this position
  • This position will remain open for applicants until January 15th, 2026
