The Maintenance Tech Lead supports distribution center operations by overseeing equipment maintenance and repair. This role acts as the department lead when the area manager / supervisor is unavailable, ensuring safety compliance, operational efficiency, and team coordination.
Maintenance Planning & Execution (60%)
Plan and coordinate maintenance and repairs of conveyors, machinery, and equipment at a Tech 3 level.
Perform routine preventive maintenance tasks (e.g., lubricating equipment, adjusting conveyor chains, replacing belts).
Evaluate equipment breakdowns and assign repair tasks.
Leadership and Team Support (20%)
Act as department lead in the supervisor’s absence.
Mentor junior technicians by providing on-the-job training and promoting a culture of accountability and continuous learning.
Foster teamwork and reduce employee conflict.
Collaborate with operations and safety teams.
Safety and Compliance (10%)
Ensure all work (including subcontractors’) complies with OSHA and company safety regulations.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
Support safety initiatives to reduce risk and downtime.
Documentation (10%)
Maintain accurate repair and maintenance records.
Use CMMS or other tracking software for documentation.
Must have:
Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience (preferably in a warehouse) and 1 year as a Tech III.
High school diploma or GED required; technical training preferred.
Must have experience with operating machinery, minor repairs, and troubleshooting.
Must be able to use all routine industrial hand tools.
Must have electrical knowledge.
Must be able to pass equipment training including scissor lift, stock picker, reach truck, pallet truck, and turret truck.
Ability to lift to 50 pounds repetitively, scan with RF equipment, bend, twist, and be on your feet for shifts up to 12 hours long.
Ability to give clear direction and provide informal training to junior techs.
Preferred skills and experience:
Skilled at prioritizing maintenance tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Able to document work accurately using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
Experience leading peers or acting as a point of contact in a team setting.
Communicates effectively with peers, supervisors, and cross-functional teams (e.g., safety, operations).
Strong critical thinking under pressure, especially during downtime events.
