As a Maintenance Supervisor, you will lead and support facilities staff by providing direction, training, coaching, and mentorship across assigned shifts. In this role, you will oversee the installation, inspection, repair, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance of buildings, infrastructure, and facility equipment, while ensuring work is completed safely and efficiently. You will coordinate closely with Maintenance Control, internal departments, and external contractors to plan and execute facility-related projects and daily operations.
A caregiver in this position works days + on-call shifts from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Maintain knowledge of applicable statutory, regulatory and administrative requirements related to departmental operations and ensure departmental compliance.
Provide comprehensive building maintenance and service for an assigned shift for the hospital system.
Manage assigned staff of general maintenance workers. Interviews, selects, trains, orients, assigns, inspects work, evaluates performance, and makes recommendations for discipline, termination and other related personnel actions.
Oversee mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, appliance, electrical and communications repairs and maintenance.
Oversight may include finishing repairs, including wallpaper and painting; grounds keeping; the keying system; and assigning preventive maintenance tasks.
Administer established department/hospital policies and procedures and adhere to quality, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Assist with establishing maintenance policies and procedures.
Maintain department reports and records.
Coordinate with other Supervisors and Planner to ensure a comprehensive maintenance program.
Fill in for other Supervisors during vacations and absences.
Coordinate with hospital nursing and operations staff to foster a teamwork spirit and the providing of departmental service excellence.
Operate area of responsibility within assigned budget.
Implement a program of continuous quality, service and operational efficiency improvement.
Issue purchase orders for emergency contracted services as needed.
Contribute to the safe and continuous operation of the assigned facilities shop/trade including Preventative Maintenance, Operation and testing in accordance with Ohio law and applicable codes and policies.
Assist with developing Preventative Maintenance needed for maintaining building systems and trade standards/specifications.
Perform quality assurance reviews of work completed by assigned employees.
Other duties as assigned.
Follow Hospital and department policies and procedures with special attention to attendance and punctuality, confidentiality, dress code and display of ID badge, and safety.
Complete mandatory education and training in order to maintain organization and department-specific competencies and requirements.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High School Diploma or GED
Completion of apprenticeship trade or vocational school or knowledge obtained through four years of on-the-job training experience in the appropriate area of responsibility
Valid state driver's license (VDL) required and must be insurable under Cleveland Clinic driver's policy
Four years as a fully qualified tradesperson or technician in respective area of responsibility (e.g., electrical, plumbing)
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Bachelor's degree in business administration, engineering or related field
Certified Healthcare Facility Manager - American Society for Healthcare Engineering
One year of previous supervisory experience or demonstration of formal education in business management or related field
MedGas experience
Previous HVAC or Construction experience
Physical Requirements:
Typical physical demands require full body motion including ability to perform work while bending, stooping, stretching, climbing ladders; requires dexterity and strength sufficient to operate required tools and machinery; typically required to lift and carry machinery and/or equipment weighing 25 to 100 lbs. and/or assist with lifting weights exceeding 100 lbs.
Requires color acuity sufficient to distinguish color coded wiring and piping.
Personal Protective Equipment:
Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
