JOB SUMMARY:
This role reports directly to the Plant Engineer (Maintenance Manager) and is responsible for leading/directing a multi-skilled, flexible work team to ensure safe, permit compliant, efficient and effective maintenance of operational equipment at a chemical industry production facility.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead and supervise a maintenance team ensuring adherence to safe and environmentally correct work practices, demonstrate a proactive approach to teamwork, continuous improvement and cost reduction
- Exhibits a safety mindset leading by example through safety goals and Critical Success Factors for safety performance by active participation in resolving safety issues and coordinating safety and housekeeping programs
- Plan as required, coordinate and monitor the activities of maintenance team to ensure production targets, maintenance goals, and quality specifications are met safely and efficiently in accordance to company/plant polices procedures and work instructions
- Coordinate Maintenance activities with the Maintenance Manager and other personnel as appropriate
- Manage the performance and development of personnel through on-going feedback, coaching, counseling, and recognition
- Ensure direct reports obtain business knowledge required to work effectively
- Monitor cost to help ensure compliance with budgets. Report potential variances
- Maintain and encourage collaborative resolutions and communications of work issues among employees, departments and various work groups
- Establish and share maintenance best practices
- Coordinate the work of maintenance technicians and contractors
- Complete reports and documentation as required
- Manage preventative maintenance through CMMS (SAP) systems, driving preventative maintenance performance plantwide both in plant support and continuous improvement functions
- Improve plant performance through development of procedure and instructions for maintenance plans
- Participates and supports Management of Change. Permit to Work, RCA’s, and other site programs
- Takes initiative and makes decisions based on experience, organizational policy, and directives
- Perform other duties as required or assigned
SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE: REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong knowledge of work management processes, labor estimating and resource balancing
- Strong working knowledge of plant / facilities equipment
- This role requires an excellent grasp of planning, scheduling and attention to detail
- Strong computer and communication skills

SKILLS, ABILITIES & KNOWLEDGE: PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 1-3 years’ experience with CMMS systems (SAP)
- 3-5 years of experience in plant maintenance experience
- Previous leadership experience working with a team
- Strong understanding of skilled crafts such a mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation
- Experience in a union environment
- Mechanical Journeyman’s Card or License
- Basic Chemistry and Physics
- Basic Welding Skills
- 5 years of Chemical Plant Experience
- Demonstrated experience around key Working Relationships and Accountabilities with: Production, Maintenance, Engineering Departments and Supervision of vendors and outside contracts.
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
WORKING REQUIREMENTS
- Must be able to come in on the off shifts as needed.
- This is a salary exempt position with on call responsibilities.
- This position may be called at home for advice and information as required to support the needs of the plant.
