This position performs a variety of repairs and maintenance of large equipment, mowers, tractors, and vehicles. This position requires supervision of lower level members as well as the ability to work alone to complete installation and preventive maintenance for all equipment and vehicles. This position must be able to plan, purchase materials and parts, and execute repairs of all equipment. In the absence of the shop mechanic, this position must be able to complete repairs or maintenance tasks started by the mechanic without direct guidance.
Job Duties:
60%- Repair and perform preventive maintenance on all department landscape large mower and tractor equipment and vehicles/carts. Repair and perform preventive maintenance on all small engines, trimmers, blowers, etc., and other 2-cycle engine equipment.
15%- Purchase supplies/tools. Maintain supplies of materials on the job and on work trucks to support projects and tasks. Run errands to local shops to pick up parts. Maintain Shop cleanliness and organization.
15%- Perform equipment repair which may include welding/torch cutting and cleaning of equipment as part of maintenance and good repair work to assure proper operation on a daily basis
5%- Perform preventive maintenance and irrigation system inspection and repair to assist irrigation crew on occasion.
5%- Perform other tasks as required
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:
Three years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR
Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
This position requires a valid driver's license, will require an MVR, and is subject to drug screens per PM-33/PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
This position is classified as a safety and security-sensitive position. These positions are subject to drug screens per PS-67/FASOP HR-04.
Ability to work in all weather conditions. In accordance with University Policy Statement 18, this position is considered essential and may be required to report or stay on campus in the event of an emergency or closure.
This position will require a physical evaluation based on the physical demands required for the position.
