Job Description
Western Nevada College is recruiting for a Maintenance Repair Specialist 1. The ideal candidate is responsible for interpreting blueprints, schematics and local building codes to perform maintenance and repair projects. This position will repair, construct, and maintain buildings, grounds and equipment, plan, layout and initiate cost estimates for projects; coordinate with outside vendors to bid parts and receive cost estimates. Other duties include maintenance and repair for plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC. This position also provides maintenance and testing of all backflow devices, maintaining plumbing fixtures and water heaters, repairing existing fixtures, toilets, urinals, sinks, and drinking fountains and the opening of clogged drains. This position must follow the International Building Code (IBC) and Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) as well as state and local code requirements. This position will also be responsible for maintaining the roofing of buildings, performing carpentry, and electrical installations, and other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
This position requires four (4) years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two (2) or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
A valid Class “C” Nevada driver’s license or higher operator’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.
This position requires working with and around hazardous building materials, frequent lifting, climbing, and moving heavy objects; vibration and electrical hazards; and working in small spaces and on ladders. This position requires working in inclement weather.

Applicants with HVAC experience are encouraged to apply.
Schedule
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs. This position is designated as Essential Personnel. In the event of a campus emergency, special event, closure to maintain campus safety or building operations, this position may be required to work outside of regularly scheduled hours.
Compensation Grade
Grade 30
In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
