Job Description 

MAINTENANCE WORKER - Part Time (Permanent) - Oakview Place

Applicants are invited to apply for the following positions available at Oakview Place, 245 bed long term care facility, located in the St. James area of Winnipeg.

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Observes and monitors all areas of the facility maintenance requirements and carries out repairs as required.

· Performs mechanical maintenance and repairs to equipment.

· Performs general maintenance and repairs to plumbing, electrical system and carpentry.

· Refers problems requiring specialized work to outside contractors and monitors work performed.

· Conduct regular maintenance rounds.

· Identifies and maintains adequate inventory to facilitate timely repairs.

· Participate in budget preparation and control.

· Ensures the safety and privacy of residents.

· Participates in developing action plans to resolve staff, resident’s complaints/concern.

· Regular lifting of heavy objects.

· Expose to hazards from use of tools and power equipment.

· Extendicare’s Code of Business Conduct and Standards of Employee Conduct policies are to be adhered at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS

· Three to Five years relevant experience and/or knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry and heating and ventilation systems.

· Have Grade 12 education, fifth class power engineer or equivalent, Preferred.

· Knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, refrigeration, kitchen and laundry equipment is an asset.

· Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and complete tasks in a timely manner.

· Ability to communicate effectively in English with other staff, residents, families and the public both in written and oral form.

· Mentally and physically able to perform responsibilities as outlined.

· Current (within 6 months) Criminal Record Check & Adult Abuse Registry Check.

Salary and benefits will base on the collective agreement.
