Major Duties:

  • This position is located in the Public Works Branch of the Facilities Engineering Division, U.S. Coast Guard TRACEN. You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor, responsible for providing all facilities maintenance, management, and operations of all property and assets assigned to the United States Coast Guard TRACEN, Cape May, NJ. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Directing and overseeing the operation, maintenance (recurring, preventative, and casualty), and minor repair of TRACEN utility distribution systems, including electrical, water and sewage, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration systems, fuel tanks, plumbing systems, swimming facilities, grounds, roads, and sidewalks. Managing all aspects of work assignments, develops methods for project execution, establishes standards and reviews work for quality and timeliness in meeting schedules. Estimating labor hours required by various trades, materials costs, and equipment requirements for projects. Determining the number and types of workers needed to complete projects, and planning use of subordinate workers, equipment, facilities, and materials on specific projects as well on quarter-to-quarter basis to ensure a balanced workload. Coordinating and managing facilities maintenance, repair, alteration, and operations for all assigned buildings, structures, grounds, and physical properties at TRACEN, serving as the technical point-of-contact for planning, design, construction, and maintenance services. Overseeing and ensuring completion of structural maintenance and minor repairs to roofs, exterior facades, masonry, reinforced concrete, steel and wood structural systems, floor systems, interior lathe plaster, wood paneling, gypsum drywall partitions, and interior and exterior painting of buildings, roadways, and structures. Managing and executing facilities maintenance support for TRACEN operational functions and special events such as recruit graduation ceremonies, sunset parades, and VIP visits, including documenting work orders, labor hours, materials, and contract procurement costs.
