Job Summary: Incumbent serves as the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor in the Facilities Department located at the Northern Cheyenne Service Unit. The primary purpose is to supervise and manage the maintenance, repair, and operation of facilities, equipment, government quarters, and utility systems within the Service Unit. Major Duties:

  • Provides supervisory oversight to approximately five (5) employees which encompass maintenance mechanics, maintenance worker, and maintenance worker helpers. Plans daily and weekly work assignments based on priorities, staffing levels, and availability. Adjust workload based on emergencies, absences, and agency requirements. Coordinates work with agency departments to avoid disruption of patient care. Provides technical direction and resolves problems encountered by staff. Inspects work in progress and upon completion to ensure safety, accuracy, quality, and compliance. Maintains documentation of completed work. Establishes performance expectation, counsels employees, manages schedules, and attendance. Performs annual and quarterly inspections according to policy. Manages fleet department and ensures compliance with appropriate standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Your background must demonstrate experience in a variety of maintenance and trade-related fields such as carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, and other skilled/unskilled work. Physical Effort/Requirements: The work requires regular and recurring periods of standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and climbing; frequently handles objects weighing up to 100 pounds and continually handles objects weighing up to 20 pounds. May periodically crawl through attics, crawl spaces, and other cramped spaces. Encounters electrical and infectious or contagious hazards. The incumbent is required to maintain a current driver license, as the position requires occasional travel throughout and within the Service Unit area by government vehicle. Screen-out Element: Ability To Lead Or Supervise 3 or more other workers in maintenance mechanic positions completing the following tasks: Assign work to subordinate staff, plan and distribute workload, inspect work in progress, train or instruct subordinate staff, and report to supervisor on status and progress of work, initiate disciplinary actions for insubordinate behavior, initiate requests for personnel actions, such as promotions, reassignments, and details. Additional examples include: working independently in a wide range of Maintenance activities, ensure maintenance and/or facility operations are carried out in accordance with appropriate policies and procedures. Use and apply standard building techniques, practices, and codes, read and understand blueprints, sketches and schematics, read and understand work orders in order to complete assigned work. Managerial Abilities: Candidates must have demonstrated in their work experience or training that they possess or have the potential to develop the qualities of successful supervision, as required by this position. Supervisory Competencies: Candidates should possess proficiency or the potential to develop proficiency in these supervisory competencies: Accountability Customer Service Decisiveness Flexibility Integrity/Honesty Oral Communication Problem Solving Written Communication Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level.
