Job Summary: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is a Maintenance Mechanic position responsible for the full range of construction, alteration, and repair of buildings and structures. The role also requires performing incidental duties in other trades, including sheet metal, masonry, painting, and roofing.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common carpentry tasks. I can plan and lay out work, select materials, install studs and sills, fabricate shelves and counters, install door and window sashes, and perform routine maintenance on equipment. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Work is performed in wood shops and at job sites. When working in a shop, incumbent stands for extended periods while operating machines such as bench planers, saws and drill presses. The work requires considerable bending, kneeling and stooping. When at a job site, strenuous physical exertion is sometimes required when handling heavy and bulky materials such as sheets of plywood, framing members and other building and construction materials. On-site work typically requires bending, stooping, crawling and climbing ladders, scaffolding and rooftops. Incumbent may lift and move materials up to 50 Pounds, unassisted, and occasionally lift or move heavier items with the assistance of lifting devices or other workers. Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop areas where the worker is exposed to moderate or high noise levels fromoperating machinery, sawdust in the air, glue fumes, and hazards associated with woodworking andrelated power equipment. When working at job sites, worker may be exposed to weather conditionsand the hazards of working on and around scaffolds and ladders. They are subject to cuts, bruises,and contusions. Worker may work in confined areas such as crawl spaces and attics which may bedusty and dirty. They use protective devices such as earplugs, safety glasses, respirators andgloves. When performing paint duties, the worker occasionally may be required to wear protectiveequipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
