A Brief Summary of This Position
The Maintenance Mechanic 10 performs preventative maintenance & repairs on all plant equipment and facilities including hydraulic machines, presses, shears, cranes, welders, mechanical clutches, drive trains, etc. Repairs worn parts, straightens and fabricates fixtures. Makes new installation of equipment and performs major repairs/replacements. Help perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs plant production equipment.

Monday through Friday 7AM-3PM
Starting Hourly Pay Rate (LG10): $26.72
Opportunity for step pay increases at 90 days, 1 year & 2 years
Essential Functions
Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on all plant equipment and facilities
Performs diagnosis, testing, disassembly, inspecting, repair and re-assembly of plant equipment, Forklift, straddle trucks, shag trucks, golf carts, and company vehicles
Performs skilled trouble shooting and servicing of pneumatic and hydraulic components
Performs proper replacement and/or adjustment of mechanical clutches, drive trains, etc.
Repair of worn parts, straightens and fabricates fixtures (welding, cutting, brazing, and surface hardening applications).
Be able to trouble shoot electrical circuits, 12-48 volt DC
Change and repair multiple tire sizes and styles
Assist junior personnel and operators in proper direction of equipment repairs
Ability to perform major and general repairs on all equipment
Required to record labor and material used on each repair made
Required to take proper care and use of test equipment
Required to properly use lift equipment (cranes, booms, man lifts, cherry picker, etc.)
Exercise communication skills pertaining to the job
Occasionally will be called during irregular hours to handle production coverage with little or no supervision
Reports all abnormal conditions and safety hazards to supervisor
Will perform housekeeping and other routine tasks as directed
Is diligent at all times to work safely, and to follow safe working practices, including Lockout/Tag Out procedures and other safety procedures
Lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, stretching, stooping, and working in awkward and/or confined positions
Works in a team environment
Maintain appropriate professional competencies, certifications, licenses, etc., necessary to perform job
Other duties as assigned
Make management aware of any training needs you have
Consult your management immediately if you are being asked to perform work for which you are not trained and/or are not comfortable doing because of potential safety or risk implications
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
High school diploma or GED
2-3 years’ experience in related field
Must be able to use tire changing equipment and tools
Must have knowledge of diesel and gas engines and transmissions
Must know how to work and diagnosis hydraulic systems
Must be able to trouble shoot DC voltages
Read and write clearly
Basic shop math skills; multiplication, division, decimals to fractions, fractions to decimals
Experience with pneumatic, hydraulic, and mechanical troubleshooting
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
Four+ years’ experience as an Industrial Mechanic
Four+ years’ experience working with pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems
PC literate (PLC software, Windows, etc.)
Knows and understands the various types of components used in an industrial environment such as disconnects, motor starters, relays, contactors, motors, transformers, switches (proximity and mechanical), timers, circuit protection, solenoids, etc.
Understands the operation of welders and how to repair them, requires knowledge of rectifiers and SCRs
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Most of this job is performed in an indoor shop environment. The temperature range can be from 100 degrees in the summer to about 50 degrees in the winter. Most operations may expose employee to some type of disagreeable working conditions (wind, cold, heat, dust, dirt, fumes, noise, vibration, water, or oil). Some areas of the plant can be a noisy at times with sound levels reaching above 85 decibels. Hearing protection is available for those areas. Safety glasses and metatarsal safety shoes are required at all times in the plant. The employee will operate machines that use liquid coolant and may also be exposed to cast iron dust. The employees must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the plant environment. Employee works around material stacked overhead height. Conditions range from clean work to exposure to odors, fumes, drafts, wet conditions, dirt, grease, smoke, dust, noise, high temperatures and low frigid temperatures.
Employee must stand and walk, as well as handle parts, tools and equipment, gripping and grasping, on a frequent to constant basis. On an occasional to frequent basis, operator is required to lift/carry parts. Most weight moved is less than 30 lb. Although a few items do weigh more, a maximum lift of 50 lb. is all that is required. Standing, bending, pivoting, walking and reaching overhead are required during most of the shift. Climbing ladders, pulling wire through conduit, hanging fixtures and electrical components also requires a physical exertion. Lifting, carrying, bending, kneeling, stretching, crawling and working in awkward and/or confined positions is frequent with maintenance technician. Some of the physical tasks include hanging gearboxes on top of machines, changing brakes or the motors on cranes.
Mental and Visual Effort
The functions of this job require the employee to be alert at all times. Working in a fast-paced environment as well as the repetitious nature of this job requires both mental and visual concentration. The technician must be able to work quickly to repair plant equipment so operations can resume. There are often high stress situations where the technician needs to be able to work under adverse conditions for long periods of time using intense mental and visual concentration. Good hand to eye coordination with a good sense of depth perception is required at all time. Technicians need to be able to distinguish colors and be capable of reading manuals, schematics, labels, and other printed materials. Adequate hearing is required to diagnose problems with machines and equipment. Mental and visual concentration is needed to prevent injury to oneself, fellow workers and/or damage to the product. The use of any equipment or tools requires the employee to be alert at all times. If employee does not have a valid license from either of these states, the determination of acceptable vision will be made by the Safety Department on an individual basis.
