Maintenance Electrician – Ketton Cement

Competitive Salary

As a Maintenance Electrician at Ketton, you’ll play a vital role in keeping the plant running safely, efficiently and reliably. You’ll use your technical expertise to maintain and repair electrical systems across the site helping maximise uptime, reduce breakdowns and keep operational costs under control.
You’ll work within the maintenance budget while supporting improvement and investment projects that enhance plant performance, reduce downtime and lower energy consumption in line with our sustainability goals. To stay effective, you’ll keep your technical knowledge up to date and complete training as required.
This is a hands-on role where your contribution directly impacts plant reliability, safety and long-term operational success.
 

Electrical Maintenance & Fault Diagnosis

  • Deliver high‑quality electrical maintenance and repair work, quickly identifying faults and resolving issues to keep the plant operational.
  • Carry out inspections, repairs and improvements to the required technical standards and in line with site priorities.
  • Work confidently across a range of systems including LV/HV installations, motors, drives, instrumentation, and control equipment.
  • Maintain a strong safety focus at all times, ensuring compliance with site rules, regulations and engineering standards.

Technical Responsibilities

LV/HV Installations

  • Work within:
    • IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations
    • IEE Code of Practice for In‑Service Inspection & Testing
    • Electricity at Work Regulations (1989)
    • Quarry Regulations (1999)
  • Carry out:
    • Fault level analysis, fuse sizing, overcurrent protection and transformer earth fault protection.
    • Inspection and testing of HV/LV switchgear, cables and transformer systems.
    • Electrical installation, testing and commissioning to company technical standards.

Drive Installations & Motors

  • Install and maintain AC/DC motors, including understanding duty ratings and operational parameters.
  • Work with slip‑ring and squirrel‑cage induction motors, liquid starters, soft starters and VSD technologies.
  • Identify and diagnose motor vibration issues (roller and sleeve bearing systems).

Instrumentation

  • Calibrate and maintain site instrumentation, e.g.:
    • Load cells and weigh systems
    • Level control devices
    • PID controllers and process instrumentation

Control & Safety Systems

  • Work with safety‑critical systems and interlocks (e.g. Pilz, Castel, Fortress).
  • Understand PUWER (Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations).
  • Support basic PLC fault‑finding where required (Siemens S7 / SCADA).
  • Support capital project implementation from concept to commissioning.

Systems, Compliance & Parts Management

  • Use and update SAP PM (Plant Maintenance).
  • Comply with all IMS processes and site safety requirements.
  • Liaise with supervisors on technical and safety matters.
  • Support development of an effective electrical spare‑parts strategy.

Additional Requirements

  • Willingness to work occasional weekends and nights during planned or unplanned shutdowns.
  • Flexibility required during breakdowns or periods of urgent repair.
  • Responsible for aligning with all company procedures, safety standards and compliance policies.

Education & Qualifications

  • Time‑served Electrician.
  • City & Guilds Electrical qualification (or equivalent NVQ).
  • Training/competency in HV/LV systems.
  • ONC / HNC / HND in Electrical Engineering (desirable).
