About the role
- The Maintenance Electrical and Automation Technician shall exist to provide technical support, maintenance adherence, ensure compliance to Haleon quality, EHS and local electrical and automation standards, electrical oversight to projects and assisting with validation in the Cape Town Factory.
- Ensure technical support and effective maintenance to all electrical and automation systems, units and plant machinery which will result in efficient, reliable, safe, and cost-effective operations.
- To prioritize attendance to electrical and automation breakdowns on all plant equipment.
Key responsibilities
ELECTRICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Must have specific and thorough underpinning knowledge of the electrical systems that constitute the complete electrical installation of the site, as will be under his team’s responsibility.
- To provide support to the Engineering Services Manager with ensuring compliance with the requirements of all applicable Haleon Global Engineering Standards (HES).
- Ensure that all Electrical work is carried out by following the correct steps and precautions and ensure that all tests, inspections and installations are in accordance with:
- Relevant international standards
- National standards
- Statutory requirements
- National legislation
- Equipment manufacturer’s guidance/recommendations
- Provide immediate maintenance support in case of any electrical and/or electrical failure.
- Keep all electrical vendors and suppliers up to date in terms of Safety File adherence, TPO and SLA agreements.
- Conduct regular trainings and develop Standard Work Instructions for the department to improve on breakdown reaction time and plant operations.
- Projects - Plan and implement improvement projects. Support in developing URS`s for electrical reticulation, during installation and commissioning / validation.
AUTOMATION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and implement maintenance schedules for all instruments / control systems to minimize down time.
- Develop and maintain in-house validation / calibration set-up to complete all validations / calibrations in compliance with GQPs /GQMPs/GES on time and at optimum cost.
- Responsible for OT, automation, and control support to site.
- Develop back-up strategy for all instruments / systems, to reduce plant down time.
- Determine and develop local vendors for all instruments / systems supply & service.
- Conduct regular trainings to other technicians / operators on instrumentation / automation to improve plant operation.
- Liaise with other departments e.g., Operations, QA and stores to implement all the unplanned and planned activities.
- Projects - Plan and implement improvement projects. Support in developing URS`s for instrumentation / control systems, during installation and commissioning / validation.
ENGINEERING COMPLIANCE AND ADMINISTRATION
- Perform task as delegated to him by his superior.
- Assist in the identifying and closure of gaps as identified by the relevant GES, TP13, ENG/EHS alerts and CCR process.
- Manage and/or avoid satellite stores in compliance to procurement policies.
- Perform RCA’s as outlined by the maintenance RCA process for equipment that do not meet failure rate targets.
- Initiate improvement projects that will either reduce costs, increase production output or reduce waste.
- Comply with all engineering standards.
- Assist in the control of expenditure in the department.
- Be available for 24-hour standby and responds to callouts on rotational bases and whenever necessary.
- Be available to work overtime when requested by your superior.
- Support the Energy manager when needed.
- Support the Projects department when needed.
- Maintains an inventory of regulatory certification pertaining to your area of responsibility.
- Oversee 3rd party electrical contractors when needed.
- Support the Maintenance Artisans with problem solving on machine issues.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY (EHS) AND ENGINEERING
- Conduct all work activities on accordance with the Environment Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy QD-POL-000823.
- Maintain a secure and healthy workplace by efficiently managing risks, including psychosocial risks, to protect our people and the environment from physical or mental harm. Achieve this through our internal control framework, EHSW standards, local SOPs and actively working towards achieving our objectives and targets.
- Support the EHS department with electrical compliance risks when needed.
- Comply with EHS and Engineering standards and guidelines and site EHS procedures.
- Actively participates in the ZAP program by reporting Near Miss and Observations to help reduce risk and improve safety. Minimum number of reports to align with the site KPI.
OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE (OE)
- Participates in OE projects.
- Identifies opportunities for ongoing improvements.
- Ensures that OE improvements are integrated into the value stream equipment.
QUALITY/ VALIDATION
- Ensures equipment is maintained according to planned maintenance system requirements.
- Attends training on QMS SOP and complies with all QMS standards and guidelines.
- Assist the validation department with design reviews, installation, and commissioning of equipment.
Qualifications and skills
Required
- N6 NATED Certificate/NQF level 5
- At least 3 years’ experience in Electrical maintenance and Automation and control
- Working experience on PLC
Preferred
- N6 Trade Test Certificate or Diploma in Automation/Electrical /Electronic/Instrumentation Engineering
