About the role
- To maintain equipment to be compliant to Engineering standards, Quality standards and all EHS standards that pertains to the safe operation of equipment,
- To maintain machinery and plant regularly to ensure maximum production when required by the business.
- To prioritize and attend to breakdowns on the equipment as per your qualification
- Requirement to work shifts on a rotational basis when required.
Key responsibilities
ENGINEERING
- Perform task as delegated to him/her by his/her Line Manager i.e. Relevant additional tasks and responsibility which can be assigned from time to time.
- Assist in the identifying and closure of gaps as identified by relevant Engineering and EHS Standards, Engineering and EHS alerts, CAPA’s Change Controls and other audits.
- Perform RCA's as outline by the maintenance RCA process for equipment that does not meet failure rate targets.
- Add critical spare parts to the stores list as new required parts are identified and communicate to the responsible stores person for stock keeping.
- Responsible for conducting regular inspections of machinery and equipment to identify potential issues, such as wear and tear, misalignments, or faulty components.
- Support various assigned project tasks from concept to hand over when needed and participate in search/spin of ideas and solutions when needed.
- Escalate risks regarding maintaining future machine reliability.
- Be available to work overtime when requested by your Line Manager.
- Attend Production, Quality, EHS and Project meetings when required.
- Collaborate with other teams and fellow Maintenance Artisans including technicians to address maintenance needs, coordinate projects, and ensure efficient operation of equipment.
- Oversee third party contractors when needed.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH AND SAFETY (EHS)
- Conduct all work activities on accordance with the Environment Health, Safety and Wellbeing Policy QD-POL-000823.
- Maintain a secure and healthy workplace by efficiently managing risks, including psychosocial risks, to protect our people and the environment from physical or mental harm. Achieve this through our internal control framework, EHSW standards, local SOPs and actively working towards achieving our objectives and targets.
- Support EHS department with machinery or equipment compliance risks when needed.
- Responsible for adhering to safety protocols and regulations while working on machinery and equipment; following lockout/tagout procedures, wearing appropriate personal equipment (PPE) and promoting a safe working environment.
- Complies with EHS and Engineering standards and guidelines and site EHS procedures
- Actively participates in the ZAP program by reporting Near Miss and Observations to help reduce risk and improve safety. Minimum number of reports to align with the site KPI.
- Conducting routine inspections on equipment and machines to identify any potential safety hazards.
- Promptly addressing equipment malfunctions (including guards and covers) and breakdowns to minimize the chances of accidents or injuries caused by faulty machinery
- Enforcing and promoting adherence to safety protocols, such as lockout/tagout procedures, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Reporting any safety concerns or incidents to the appropriate personnel as soon as reasonably practicable.
PRODUCTION
- Monitors performance of Value Stream equipment to ensure effective maximum production.
- Performs planned maintenance, services and ongoing checks to minimize breakdowns when required.
- Ensures that equipment repairs are done cost effectively in the shortest possible time to minimize downtime.
- Ensures the need for spares and change parts are identified and ordered timeously.
- Up-skills the technical capabilities of the operators and setters to improve productivity.
- Support production improvement initiatives in the department.
- Monitor own compliance of planned maintenance.
- Be reachable (through reasonable means e.g cellphone) in the event of unplanned equipment breakdowns and corrective maintenance for machines during normal, shift and afterhours operation as well as shift cover.
- Be responsible for breakdown maintenance on your shift and if called out after hours.
- Be available to cover planned preventative maintenance activities for machines during normal, shift and afterhours operation.
- Ensure own corrective and planned maintenance work orders comments are communicated to be addressed or escalated.
OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE (OE)
- Participates in OE projects.
- Seek opportunities for continuous improvement. Suggest modifications, upgrades, or process enhancements to improve equipment efficiency, reliability, safety and energy.
- Ensures that OE improvements are integrated into the Value Stream equipment.
QUALITY/VALIDATION
- Ensures equipment and machines are maintained in its validated state as per company requirements.
- Attends training on QMS SOP and complies with all QMS standards and guidelines.
- Assist the validation department with design reviews, installation and commissioning of equipment.
- Complete corrective and planned maintenance work orders in a way to ensure they comply with quality requirements.
- Responsible for maintaining accurate documentation of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
- Adhere to the business’ data integrity policy.
Qualifications and skills
Required
- N6 NATED Certificate/NQF level 5
- At least 3 years’ experience in FMCG or Pharmaceutical environment
Preferred
- N6 Trade Test Certificate in Fitting and Turning
