Job Description:

Broadcom’s Mainframe Software Division (MSD) is looking for a talented and motivated Quality Engineer, with experience testing software on mainframe systems.  In this role, you will be a key member of the Mainframe DevOps engineering team, focusing on ensuring the quality of a product called Gen (formerly known as COOL: Gen or CA Gen).

The Opportunity

As a Mainframe Quality Engineer 3, you will be responsible for test planning and execution of maintenance and enhancement for a product named Gen (formerly known as COOL: Gen or CA Gen). Gen is a low-code model-driven development environment for enterprise applications. Gen enables global businesses to generate and deploy applications in a single, integrated development environment for multiple platforms. This role will require mainframe expertise, and grow to encompass the full range of Gen functionality across all platforms.

In our Agile environment, all engineers are responsible for quality. This role amplifies our dedication to quality by ensuring specific engineers shepherd quality assurance, in collaboration with software developers, stakeholders, and support teams.

Your success will be ensured by your years of experience testing software on mainframe systems, configuring mainframe environments, and understanding the full breadth of quality management as defined by ISTQB (International Software Testing Qualifications Board) . 

What You’ll Do

  • Contribute to planning by defining the scope, risks, and objectives of testing. 

  • Generate, build, and install Gen-generated models, used for testing in mainframe environments. 

  • Maintain test environments (z/OS), documentation, tools, and data. 

  • Design and maintain comprehensive test cases and automated scripts.

  • Execute various test levels (System, Integration, Acceptance) and types (Functional, Non-functional).

  • Identify, log, and track defects using standardized reporting metrics.

  • Report on test results, and communicate in a way that the team understands customer impact. 

What You Need

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality assurance for mainframe software.

  • BA/BS in Computer Science or equivalent degree.

  • Experience creating test automation (preferably Python). 

  • Experience with zOS systems components and sub-systems such as:  TSO/ISPF, CICS, IMS, WebSphere Liberty, JCL, and DB2.

  • Experience working with middleware, such as ECI, TCP/IP or IBM MQ. 

Additional skills that will benefit your efforts

  • Experience using Gen (formerly known as COOL: Gen or CA Gen).

  • Experience with Clist, COBOL, REXX, SQL, GitHub, intelliJ, VS Code. 

  • Certified by ISTQB (Foundational). 

  • Experience with z/OSMF, SMP/E, USS (z/OS Unix System Services).

  • Ability to configure CICS and IMS, define resources and set up the environment.

Compensation and Benefits

The annual base salary range for this position is $91,000 - $146,000 

This position is also eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in accordance with relevant plan documents, and equity in accordance with equity plan documents and equity award agreements.
