JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES:
PROVIDES MAIL AND COURIER SERVICES TO ALL DEPARTMENTS
Collects, sorts, distributes and transports interoffice mail.
Picks up and delivers mail
Processes special courier and over-night mail services (Federal Express, Airborne, Ups, Express Mail, etc.).
Sorts (Zip Codes, International, Certified, Library Rate, in-house, etc.).
Processes incoming and outgoing U.S. Postal Service mail.
Processes Bulk Mailings (receives, prepares paperwork and sends to presort supplier).
Identifies and documents postage for departmental allocation.
Provides courier services throughout the Central Area (picks up and delivers). Ensures materials transported are properly secured to prevent damage.
Maintains knowledge and familiarity of courier routes to provide on-going courier service.
Drives Sutter vehicles among facilities in a safe manner observing applicable DMV regulations. Locks vehicle when left unattended. Wears seat belt at all times when driving the vehicle.
PERFORMS FUNCTIONS SUPPORTING THE MAILROOM OPERATIONS
Provides information to all Central Area facilities and Care Centers regarding zip codes, mail requirements, pick-up and delivery schedules.
Supplies packaging materials, order forms, pre-stamped envelopes and mailing instructions.
Advises customers on procedures for requesting contracted cab services.
Provides coverage on various shifts as assigned due to absences, illness and vacations.
Maintains good communication skills and excellent rapport with all end-users.
Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of job.
MAINTAINS TECHNICAL AWARENESS AND KEEPS ABREAST OF CHANGES
Maintains knowledge of changing postal rules and regulations.
Maintains knowledge of overnight shipping procedures.
Operates postal equipment (adjusts, sets up, replenishes & repairs).
Needs to be aware of pending rate changes and requests.
MAINTAINS EFFECTIVE PICK-UP AND DELIVERY SCHEDULES
Remains within plus or minus fifteen minutes of the current delivery schedule.
Carries pager and responds to pages within ten minutes.
Advises Mail Services Supervisor immediately if unable to accommodate pages.
Provides pick-up and delivery services if spontaneously requested and when requests can be accommodated within schedule constraints.
Checks levels in vehicle and adds (if needed) coolant, crankcase oil, transmission fluid.
Checks tire inflation (35 PSI required).
Checks for body and glass damage and notes (if found) on inspection report.
Documents and reports immediately all serious vehicle safety defects to Mail Services Supervisor.
Submits gas purchase receipts to Mail Services Supervisor daily.
PROCESSES PHYSICIAN REPORTS RECEIVED FOR MAILING TO OFF-SITE FACILITIES
Receives, sorts, files, pulls, folds, weighs, posts and logs activity.
Separates and delivers mail to Sutter affiliated physicians.
Separates and mails reports to affiliated and non-affiliated physicians located at other facilities.
Maintains current physicians address list.
EDUCATION:
HS Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:
1 year recent relevant experience
SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of postal rules and regulations, shipping procedures, mail-handling and courier techniques, schedules, and mail-handling equipment.
Familiarity with Sacramento area very beneficial.
Familiarity with keyboard; 25 wpm; good communication skills (written/oral); manual dexterity, mechanical aptitude and memorization skills.
Organizational skills.
Knowledge of postal rules and regulations, shipping procedures, mail-handling and courier techniques, schedules, and mail-handling equipment.
A current valid California driver’s license with a good driving record (no more than two moving violations within the last two years) and must be insurable.
