Job Summary: Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS) mission is to lead the DoD in finance and accounting by ensuring the delivery of efficient, exceptional quality pay and financial information. Telework availability is limited and will only be provided on a rare case-by-case basis during situations where Agency Leadership has determined that telework serves a compelling DoD need.

Major Duties:

  • Sets up, operates, and monitors mail processing equipment (e.g. check inserter, postage metering machines, letter openers, and automated date stamper).
  • Performs maintenance and repair (clean/oil equipment, replace belts, gripper jaws, adjust belt tension, etc.); diagnoses malfunctions/makes corrective adjustments such as correcting the feed sequence in a multiple station envelope inserting machine.
  • Prepares outgoing material for dispatching; sorts mail into a variety of specialized categories such as first, third, and fourth class, foreign, U.S. Postal Service Express Mail, registered, certified, and priority mail.
  • Receives, sorts, classifies, and routes mail to personnel throughout the agency and supported units.
  • Opens, perforates, date stamps, and reads mail as necessary to determine routing by subject matter.

Qualifications: One year of general experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-03) within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required. General experience is defined as: progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social) is qualifying. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment.
