Summary :
The MRSO adheres to all safety practices required to provide a safe environment for patients and staff. The MRSO maintains an ongoing awareness of the clinical and operational practices of the MR services. The MRSO works closely with the MRMD, Diagnostic Imaging Director, Managers, Supervisors and Educator to implement and manage the MRI Safety program.
Job Description:
Key Accountabilities
- Maintains comprehensive knowledge of MRI Safety laws and accreditation standards.
- Works collaboratively with the Physicist and Engineer to maintain optimal image quality, coordinating imaging testing for accreditation.
- Reviews MRI patient implants and interpret the manufacturers guidelines for safe practices to be adhered to by the technologists for all ThedaCare hospital and clinic MRI locations.
- Coordinates patient care on Internal Cardiac Devices and timeline for pre/during/post care as established in the manufacturer’s guidelines.
- Coordinate scheduling timeline with patient, Central Scheduling, nursing staff and MRI schedule availability as needed.
- Provides safety advice on the modifications of MR Safety education and training in cooperation with and per policies of the MRI department.
- Consults with the MRMD’s, Radiologists and imaging leadership on resources with further advice as required with regards to safety.
- Provides safety advice on the modifications of MR scan protocols (in consultation with MRMD and Radiologists as needed).
- Assists physicians and administrators as required.
- Develops, implements and manages standard work, policies and procedures pertaining to safe practices within the MRI environment.
- Ensures employee’s MRI competencies are up to date and in compliance with the department standard.
- Works effectively as a team member by offering support and/or ideas to enable the group to reach goals. Uses collaborative approach to problem solving.
- Help guide new employees and provide appropriate MRI safety material.
- Contributes to patient safety by:
- Providing a safe environment for patients and staff
- Reporting safety concerns, errors and near misses
- Participates in system improvement initiatives to prevent errors
- Provides evidence-based care as applicable to the role
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited radiography program
- American Registry Radiologic Technologist (ARRT)
- Advanced Certificate in Magnetic Resonance Imaging RT(MR)
- MRSO certification preferred within one year of hire
- A minimum of five years of MRI experience
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Physical Demands
- Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
- Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
Work Environment
- Normally works in climate-controlled office environment
- Frequent sitting with movement throughout office space
- Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
- Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
- Occasional high noise level in work environment.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents.
- Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients.
- Use of computers throughout the work day
- Frequent use of keyboard with repetitive motion of hands, wrists, and fingers. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
- Occasional high noise level in work environment.
- Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents.
- Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients.
