Deckorators, a brand of UFP Industries, operates its flagship Surestone extrusion and polymer manufacturing facility in Buffalo, New York. This plant is the center for technical innovation, precision tooling, and engineered manufacturing processes supporting our growing product portfolio.
The Machinist III is a senior-level technical role responsible for machining, rebuilding, and modifying precision components used in extrusion tooling, dies, fixtures, and plant machinery. This position requires advanced machining skills, excellent blueprint interpretation, and the ability to work with tight tolerances. The Machinist III supports tooling development, continuous improvement initiatives, and rapid turnaround for critical production needs.
Set up, program, and operate manual and CNC machines (mills, lathes, grinders) to fabricate and repair precision components.
Manufacture and modify extrusion dies, calibration tools, fixtures, and production parts to exact specifications.
Read, interpret, and work from complex engineering blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical documentation.
Inspect parts to verify dimensional accuracy using micrometers, gauges, calipers, and precision measurement tools.
Support Engineering and Process teams in tooling design improvements and root-cause analysis.
Perform precision machining on stainless, aluminum, high-temperature alloys, and engineered plastics.
Repair, rebuild, and maintain tooling and machine components to support production uptime.
Maintain documentation on tooling adjustments, revisions, and fabrication history.
Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and maintain a clean, organized machining area.
Train less-experienced machinists or technicians on machining processes and safe equipment operation.
Perform other duties as assigned to support production and maintenance operations.
High school diploma required; trade school or machining certificate strongly preferred.
Minimum 5+ years of machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
Advanced knowledge of manual and CNC milling & turning, surface grinding, and fabrication techniques.
High proficiency with precision measuring tools and machining to tight tolerances.
Experience machining tooling for extrusion, plastics, or high-volume manufacturing preferred.
Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and CAD-generated models.
Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently.
Must be at least 18 years of age.
Compensation & Benefit Information
Salary Pay Range: $28.00-$35.00 per hour dependent on experience*
*pay range may be adjusted depending on cost of living
