Summary:
The Chicago Tribune is currently seeking a Machinist Apprentice to work in a team-based, self-managing environment at our Schaumburg Production facility, ensuring equipment is well-maintained to produce high-quality products on time and within budget.
What you will do:
Monitor and troubleshoot newspaper production equipment during operation to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement; and repair faulty equipment or systems
Work with chemicals to clean and prepare machinery for repairs and machining
Perform basic repairs and maintenance offline, and emergency repairs under deadline pressure
Clean up tasks on press, warehouse, auxiliary equipment as necessary, including daily, weekly and monthly preventive maintenance tasks
Electronic or mechanical devices including tools, hardware, software and other equipment used in the performance of the essential functions of this position include the following: unit control panels, advanced press control systems, calibration equipment, precision measuring equipment, basic hand tools, variety of machine shop tools, PCs and database program entry, and forklift/clamp truck
Work night, weekend and holiday shifts as required; regular and reliable attendance is a necessary element of this job
What you will bring:
Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. on a regular basis and work within deadlines
Excellent oral and written communication skills with multiple levels of management and across teams
Comfortable working with PC’s and computer driven equipment
Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with excellent time management skills
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; post secondary schooling in mechanics and/or machining is desired
Minimum of two years of experience as a Maintenance Mechanic or Machinist on production equipment required
Benefits and Compensation:
The hourly wage is $26.67.
