The Machinery Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring excellence in machine safety across the site, in alignment with Haleon’s internal standards, Swiss regulatory requirements (including CFST 6512), European directives, and relevant ISO/EN norms.

This role acts as a technical expert supporting Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and EHS teams throughout the entire lifecycle of industrial equipment.

Machinery Safety Specialist:

  • Define, maintain, and lead the site’s Machinery Safety program in accordance with EHS & Engineering standards.

  • Serve as Owner of Machinery Safety training curricula and ensure adequate competency development across operational teams.

  • Conduct or support machine risk assessments using Haleon methodologies (PGA, MSRA, basis of safety) and applicable standards (ISO 12100, ISO 13849, EN 60204, etc.).

  • Ensure CE conformity for new, modified, or existing equipment; participate in technical reviews during equipment procurement or modification projects.

  • Perform gap assessments using the duty holder matrix and define action plans.

  • Participate in change control processes involving machinery and support project teams accordingly.

  • Carry out regular gemba walks to identify machine hazards, deviations, and improvement opportunities.

  • Actively contribute to the Machinery Safety Community of Practice (CoP) at regional/global level.

  • Provide expert input during internal and external audits.

  • Collaborate with Maintenance to ensure the robustness, availability, and compliance of safety-related components (emergency stops, interlocks, light curtains, sensors, etc.).

 

EHS Advisor for Liquid & SemiSolid Packaging:

In addition to the machinery safety remit, the specialist provides EHS support to the Liquid & SemiSolid Packaging department.

  •  

  • Support operational teams in the implementation of the EHS Management System within packaging areas.

  • Lead or coordinate risk assessments, JSAs, safety observations, and incident investigations.

  • Support compliance of processes, equipment, and work practices with EHS and Engineering requirements.

  • Ensure the correct application of LOTO/energy isolation, nonroutine work controls, and safe maintenance interventions.

  • Participate in project reviews, FAT/SAT activities, commissioning, qualification, and process changes affecting safety.

  • Actively contribute to EHS continuous improvement and strengthen the site’s safety culture within the packaging department.

Knowledge/ Education / Experience Required

  • Master’s degree in mechanical/electrical/Automation Engineering, Safety Engineering, or equivalent

  • 3–5 years of experience in Machinery Safety, Engineering,
    Industrial Safety, or EHS roles within an industrial environment
    (pharma, FMCG, biotech, chemical, etc.)

  • Expertise in ISO 12100, ISO 13849, EN 60204

  • Good understanding of automation/electrical safety systems

  • Risk assessment skills

  • Strong communication and training ability

  • French fluency and English proficiency

  • Additional valued skills: Process Safety, Fire Safety, Industrial Hygiene
