Job Summary

 

Works directly with a nurse preceptor under the direction of a Registered Nurse, assist in the development of nursing care plans and perform a variety of both technical and routine nursing services consistent with such plans.


 

Essential Functions

 

  • Within the RNCs, unable to perform nursing functions or items listed below independently without nurse preceptor.  May independently perform functions of CNA after skill validation with an active CNA certification.  
  • Within the hospitals, performs activities under the direction of the nurse, per job description and after skill validation.
  • Applies the Core concepts of Patient and Family Centered Care in practice and uses this knowledge to personalize care for each patient/family.
  • Performs routine bedside nursing activities including: bathing and personal grooming of patients; ambulating, moving and turning patients; assisting patients with bedpans or urinary devices; making patient beds and caring for personal property.
  • Takes vital signs and records intake and output.
  • Applies and changes sterile and non-sterile dressing using appropriate technique.
  • Provides care to the patient according to the plan of care, unit routine and policy under the direction of a nurse. Documents in electronic medical record.
  • Keeps professional nursing staff advised of current patient status as well as changes in patient condition as they occur.
  • Assists in admitting, transferring, and discharging patients under the supervision of a nurse.

 

Qualifications

  • Required High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Required  Enrolled in approved program required prerequisites or nursing school within next available cohort
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - ARC American Red Cross  90 Days required Or
  • CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA American Heart Association  90 Days required  
  • CRT-Nursing Assistant - Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Community and Health Systems Michigan Department of Licensing & Regulatory Affairs, Bureau of Community and Health Systems Rehab and Nursing Centers Only Upon Hire required
