Job Summary:

The University of San Francisco invites applications for the Lo Schiavo Chair in Catholic Social Thought. As a distinguished scholar in residence the Chair has the opportunity to pursue research, teaching, and service activities in his or her area of expertise and to enhance the University of San Francisco’s impact in the area of Catholic Social Thought. Under the supervision of the Provost and in close collaboration with the Director of the Joan and Ralph Lane Center for Catholic Social Thought and the Ignatian Tradition, the Lo Schiavo Chair will support faculty, staff, and student engagement with Catholic social thought and the Ignatian tradition through Lane Center programming, guest lectures, workshops, and public events.

Full Job Description:

Minimum qualifications include a PhD in theology, ethics or a related field and experience leading faculty, staff, and university leadership mission formation programs. The ideal candidate will bring a record of scholarly work and teaching that engage the Catholic, Ignatian imagination. Members of the Society of Jesus will be given preference for the position. The term of appointment is flexible, to be mutually agreed upon by the University and the candidate. The position is open to scholars in all disciplines. Expertise to support the Lane Center’s initiatives on integral ecology, healing and nonviolence, synodality, and Ignatian spirituality is strongly preferred.
