The City of Fort Worth’s Log Cabin Village is looking for a fun and engaging Museum Store Clerk/Historical Interpreter II to bring history to life for museum visitors from all over the world!   Historical interpreters relay history and demonstrate 19th c. style crafts to an average of 27,000 visitors of all ages every year.  The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, cash handling and retail merchandising experience, a passion for learning, and demonstrated success in the delivery of educational programming. This is a part-time position with an average of 24 hours/week.

Log Cabin Village is a 19th C. living history museum dedicated to the preservation of 19th C. folk architecture and frontier lifeways.  Owned and operated by the City of Fort Worth’s Park & Recreation Department, Log Cabin Village aspires to build connections to 19th century Texas by providing educational opportunities and sensory experiences that are engaging, accurate, and as authentic as possible.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • High School diploma or GED certification
  • Two (2) years of responsible customer service experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous museum store or other retail experience
  • Cash handling experience
  • Heavy public contact in educational and/or museum settings
  • Demonstrated ability to multitask and pay attention to detail
  • Working knowledge of 19th crafts/skills
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

The Log Cabin Village Historical Interpreter II job responsibilities include:

  • Responsibly performs all aspects of front-line museum store operations, including stocking, merchandising, cleaning, cash register/credit card sales, starting group tours, and answering phone calls.
  • Opens museum grounds/buildings on Saturdays and as needed
  • Provides exceptional customer service to group tour and walk-in visitors and coworkers
  • Utilizes effective teamwork to achieve goals.
  • Ensures assigned areas are clean and secure (sweeping, cleaning glass, locking doors)
  • Make items to be sold in museum store.
  • Assists with special family events and classes.
  • Develops and teaches classes as time and interest allows.
  • Dressing in 19th style clothing.
  • Heavy public contact.
  • Year-round outdoor work in non-climate-controlled conditions.
  • May also require extensive movement around the 2.5-acre site.
