The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry (ODAFF) is seeking a full time Livestock Inspector in the Animal Industry Division. This position (PIN #04000287) is in state government, located in Lincoln or Pottawatomie counties in Oklahoma. The hourly pay for this position is up to $23.21 based on education and experience.
Basic Purpose/Position Description: Positions in this job family are assigned responsibilities involving planning, conducting, and coordinating agriculture operations in an assigned area or district to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state laws, rules, and regulations and to provide protection for consumers and others within the industry. Responsibilities include performing inspections, reporting, samplings, and surveys, and investigations.
Typical Functions:
Level Descriptor: This position is for a Livestock Inspector 1, which is the introductory level.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities: Basic knowledge of livestock species and breeds is essential. Experience in handling livestock is important. Ability to communicate with farmers, ranchers, livestock auction market owners, veterinarians is very important. Ability to utilize laptop computers and electronic programs, documents and spreadsheets is essential as well.
Education and Experience: Education and Experience requirements at this level consist of a bachelor’s degree in an agricultural, biological, plant, animal, physical or natural science, food technology, or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: Much of this work will be outside in all weather conditions. It will involve lifting and moving livestock handling and other equipment. Opening gates and climbing fences is a common duty. This position will be assigned a work truck with their residence as their duty station. Travel will be required.
Additional Information:
Applicants must possess a valid Oklahoma Driver’s license and be willing and able to fulfill all job-related travel normally associated with the position.
This position is subject to a twelve-month probationary period.
