Job Description
Essential duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform all tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
Main Duties:
- Assist in opening the cafe with other line cooks, salad bar/coffee area and main kitchen as needed. Breakfast set-up, brew coffee, dishes and daily pre-made food.
- Prepare deli sandwiches for grab-n-go cooler using a variety of breads, meats, veggies, sauces and techniques.
- Prepare additional grab-n-go items as necessary
- Prep daily pars: duties include all line and BOH prep.
- General stocking and rotation of product.
- Assist lead line cooks when needed
- Set up “Wrap of the Day”
- Keep station clean and prepped for service
- Request projects to assist Café manager or café leads future menu items and catering orders
- Serve customers breakfast and lunch utilizing all stations in a timely and productive manner (flat top, deli station and hot line daily entrees).
- Breakdown, scrub and close down the line.
- Dish soap scrub & towel wipe all flat surfaces, Wipe down steel cabinets with stainless steel cleaner, Bleach & scrub white cutting board 2x/week and Once over grill
- Adheres to quality standards
- Label, date and store all prepped items properly to insure freshness and safety of food.
Marginal Duties:
Marginal duties of this position include the following. Employees in this position perform all tasks. Other duties may be assigned.
- Attend staff meetings.
- Back up other kitchen staff.
- Operate kitchen equipment including dishwasher, slicer, mixer, oven, flat-grill, char-grill etc.
Secondary Duties:
- Coverage of salad bar and prep
- Overlooking and assisting in upkeep of main area café
- Keeping track of nearby inventory and reporting needed items on the written order or prep list.
- Assisting in Trek Events (as needed, requested, or volunteered)
- Stocks beverages, snacks and sandwiches in Grab and Go cooler upon direction.
Qualifications:

- Interpersonal Skills: Works well with others from diverse backgrounds. Focuses on solving conflict; maintaining confidentiality; listening to others without interrupting; keeping emotions under control; remaining open to others’ ideas and contributing to building a positive team spirit
- Language Skills: Ability to communicate fluently verbally and in writing in English. Ability to read, comprehend and interpret simple instructions, safety rules and operating instructions. Ability to verbally respond to common inquiries from leadership and staff.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to perform basic math skills involving monetary units.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving as they arise.
- Computer Skills: General knowledge of computer usage preferred
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to appropriately communicate with staff, guests and co-workers. Ability to be highly organized and efficient in an environment that requires strict adherence to a schedule.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must have or be able to obtain a valid Wisconsin Food Handler License and Wisconsin Driver License.
