About the Opportunity

The Life in Community (LinC) program is looking for volunteers with sound familiarity of the local community and a genuine interest in supporting people in their mental health recovery. LinC volunteers play an important part in supporting people to build confidence, connection and a sense of belonging within their local community.

As a LinC volunteer, you will be matched with a participant and guided by them to explore what community means in their life. Each connection looks different and is shaped by the person you are matched with. This is a role in which you can draw on your own life experiences, curiosity and compassion to support someone to engage in activities that matter to them, at their own pace and in line with their goals and interests.

A day in this role might include supporting someone to catch public transport, explore or rediscover interests and hobbies, build confidence using the internet or social networking sites, join social or interest based groups, or get to know their local area better. This could include places such as libraries, neighbourhood houses, gyms, parks, walking paths or galleries.

Meetings usually take place weekly or fortnightly for one to two hours at a time with each match spanning up to 3 months.

About Life in Community

The Life in Community volunteer program provides short term, one to one volunteer support to people who experience mental health challenges and would like support to strengthen their connection with their local community. About You

We are looking for people who enjoy connecting with others and bring kindness, empathy and strong listening skills. A willingness to commit to regular catch ups, respect confidentiality, and practise self care while recognising personal limits is important. Our volunteers come from many walks of life, and we value the diversity of experience and perspective that each team member brings.

You also bring:

  • Willingness to commit to a regular volunteer schedule.
  • 100 points of identification
  • Evidence of right to work in Australia
  • Evidence of, or a willingness to undergo a National Police Records Check, NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check
  • International Police Check required in some circumstances
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module
