Summary

Responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the pools. Works with staff members to provide all the services necessary that members would expect in the pool. Ensures there are adequate towels and supplies in the pool area and that the pools and pool decks are always clean.

Major Job Functions

The following is a summary of the major essential functions of this job.  The incumbent may perform other duties, both major and minor, that are not mentioned below.  In addition, specific functions may change from time to time:

  • Ensures there are plenty of dry, clean bath towels that are folded and available for members use

  • Cleans all wet areas, including cold plunge, whirlpool, tiled areas and pools

  • Vacuums the pools as needed during each shift

  • Assures lost items are turned into the front desk for safekeeping

  • Completes duties on locker room roster as directed

  • Lifeguards the pools at all times

  • Assists with any emergency in the pool setting per aquatic policy

  • Instructs swim lessons for children and adults

  • Assists with staffing health fairs and screenings for community business and industry on an as-needed basis

  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following qualifications, or equivalents, are the minimum requirements necessary to perform the essential functions of this job:

Education and Formal Training

  • High school diploma or equivalent required OR minimum 16 years old with work permit required

  • Certification in First Aid and Red Cross Lifeguard required

Work Experience

  • 1 year experience working with the public with 6 months of aquatic experience preferred

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required

  • Good communication and organizational skills to maintain a safe environment

  • Ability to identify problems and bring them to the attention of appropriate staff or solve problems independently

  • Knowledgeable of the psychosocial and physiological development and spiritual needs of infants, children, adolescents, and all adult age groups (per Erickson’s Model) in order to provide appropriate care and intervention, either personally or through staff

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to carry up to 50 pounds and/or lift an adult out of the pool

  • Excellent visual and hearing dexterity

  • Ability to tolerate standing, walking, bending, and lifting

  • May be subjected to exposures to chemicals
