Technical Lead

The impact you’ll have

  • Lead the tech across a defined area of our estate—guiding end‑to‑end design from discovery to production and clean handover to run teams.
  • Replace fragile legacy with supportable, cost‑aware solutions; establish new patterns where none exist and raise the health of the estate (reliability, operability, cost).
  • Set direction, not dogma—define pragmatic engineering standards and reusable patterns with non‑functional needs (security, reliability, performance) designed in.
  • Enable delivery—remove process/tooling blockers, make clear decisions, and help teams ship with fewer escalations.
  • Drive quality & resilience—improve observability, learn from incidents, prioritise defect reduction and fix root causes over workarounds.
  • Tackle technical debt—make it visible, get it prioritised, and burn it down.
  • Coach others—grow engineers’ judgement and autonomy; contribute to active, outcome‑driven communities of practice.

About you

You’ll thrive here if you:

  • Have led technical design on complex initiatives and can “own the problem” from first principles to running software.
  • Are passionate about transformation – AI adoption, improving ways of working, tooling and flow to increase team velocity.
  • Are fluent in Agile practices (Scrum, Kanban, DevOps) and value pairing/mobbing, code reviews and continuous delivery.
  • Care deeply about security, quality and operability—and can articulate the business case for doing them well.
  • Enjoy mentoring others and engaging in communities to define standards and share learning.
  • Communicate clearly with stakeholders, balancing trade‑offs and explaining decisions simply.

Our environment (experience in some is plenty; we’ll support you to learn)

  • Services & UI: Spring Boot microservices; React for SPAs and our design system.
  • Data & Cloud: Azure; Cosmos DB (Mongo API).
  • Platforms: Saleforce, Openshift, Azure, Sonata, Smartcomms, dataFactory.
  • CI/CD: Azure DevOps (Repos, pipelines).
  • Quality & Security: SonarQube, Checkmarx.
