Job Summary:

The Library Services Desk Assistant is the front-line service provider responsible for essential library operations and patron support. Key duties include managing undergraduate student circulation staff, performing circulation duties (check-in/out, renewals), providing reference and informational assistance (in-person, chat, email), and ensuring the security and appropriate use of the facility, including opening/closing the building The working hours for this role are assigned evening and weekend shifts, with some possibility of working daytime hours during semester breaks.

Reporting Relationships:

  • Reporting to the Assistant Director of Library Operations. 

Work Setting:

  • This is an in-person role, with patron and student-facing responsibilities.

Work Schedule:  

  • Up to sixteen (16) hours per week.

  • Mandatory shift coverage will include weekends and evenings. 

  • Opportunities for extra hours during semester breaks (daytime hours). 

What You Will Do:

  • Responsible for opening and/or closing the library according to the established schedule. This includes responding to building emergencies and ensuring the appropriate use of library resources and facilities and informing supervisory staff of any issues that need to be addressed.

  • Checking-in and checking out of library materials, renewing items, and helping to maintain accurate circulation records.

  • Providing direct assistance to users with reference and informational questions through various channels, including in-person, email, and chat. This involves responding proactively to patrons' needs and questions related to circulation and access to library materials.

  • Overseeing undergraduate student workers during assigned shifts, typically evenings and weekends, and providing guidance and direction in performing their job duties.

  • Actively supporting and contributing to the University’s commitment to inclusive excellence.

What You Will Bring:

Required:

  • Associates Degree

  • Two (2) or more years of customer service or related experience

Preferred, but not required:

  • Bachelor's degree  

  • Experience working in a library setting and/or with undergraduate students; Library circulation experience.

Additional Job Information:

  • Other duties such as potential project work or shelving duties as assigned.   

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to bend; kneel; stoop; push; pull; reach above and below shoulders; occasionally lifts and carries objects (books and boxes of books) up to 25 pounds unassisted.

12.00-12.00

The offer rate will be based on a review of the candidate's credentials compared to the qualifications of the position, internal equity, and our overall compensation philosophy. 

This role is not budgeted for visa sponsorship at this time, all candidates must be authorized to work in the US at the time of submission of the application.
