The Collection Management division purchases and maintains the Library District’s collection, including books, movies, music CDs, audiobooks, and video games. The Collection Management Library Paraprofessional is responsible for a variety of data-centric tasks, such as electronic record maintenance, collection reports and statistics, and material acquisition research and support, as well as material-centric tasks, such as receiving and processing books, printing labels, and managing supplies. While our work is primarily behind the scenes, we occasionally visit branches to assist with collection-related projects and training.

We Require
Two years of library experience
Associate's degree in Library Science, Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science, Information Management, or a related field
A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis
We Also Value
Experience with library-related automation systems; information retrieval from library-related databases (e.g., Polaris, Innovative Interfaces, Sirsi)
Experience with procurement and/or acquisition processes
Editing or proofreading skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Excel
Job Contributions
Process new material for addition to the collection
Import bibliographic records into library database and perform metadata corrections
Assist Administration and branch staff with collection-related questions and tasks
Work with vendors on corrections needed for cataloging and processing errors
Communicate with vendors regarding shipment and account questions and problems
Maintain documentation of ShelfLogic classification system specifications
Assist Finance Department with invoicing processing
Research titles for order sourcing via vendor websites
Participate in training branch staff on collection management functions
Working Conditions
Requires working alone and considerable electronic communication with other staff and supervisor
Alternate and remote work locations are possible, based on the needs of the position
Ability to move and lift 50 pounds regularly
Valid Arizona driver’s license is required upon hire
Ability to obtain and maintain a Maricopa County Vehicle Use Permit upon hire
Requires the use of a County or personal vehicle to drive to county library branch locations as needed
