The Legal Compliance Officer is a career level position for the Statewide Charter School Board. This individual is responsible for ensuring legal compliance of state agency documents and records by maintaining both hardcopy and electronic records and files (i.e., contracts, amendments, applications) and other school data in an efficient and accurate manner. This individual serves as secretary to the appointed state agency board, drafting, editing, and finalizing formal documents for the board and agency as necessary to fulfil all legal requirements. The position reports directly to the division director.
Drafting legal documents such as contracts, MOUS, and SOWs.
Conducting research to support SCSB duties and responsibilities.
Maintains, edits, and prepares SCSB rules for publication and approval.
Serves as SCSB's Board Clerk, taking minutes and preparing meeting minutes for Board approval.
Managing and organizing files to ensure all documents are in order.
Perform other duties as may be needed/requested.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required at this level include being highly organized and with a "legal" mindset, advanced knowledge of English usage, including grammar and composition, and principles and techniques related to maintaining compliance with applicable laws, statues, and regulations. Candidates must be highly trained in the abilities: to write and edit; to gather and organize pertinent data; to uphold and practice legal relations principles and codes of ethics; to deliver informational presentations; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Bachelor's degree in paralegal studies or related field
Certified Paralegal with the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA)
5+ years experience in a professional field
