As part of Waymo's Legal team, you will work on the exciting legal issues surrounding our transformational autonomous driving technology and help drive our business lines forward from technology ideation through scaled commercial deployment. We partner with our public policy, safety, security and privacy experts to define transportation policy for the autonomous driving world to come, advising on regulatory changes that support and protect our users around the world. We collaborate with our engineering, product, strategy and operations teams to develop and protect our intellectual property portfolio and drive our corporate and commercial transactions. We ensure compliance with an increasingly complex and dynamic range of global regulations. And we anticipate, mitigate, and litigate high-profile and precedent-setting legal matters.

In this hybrid role, you will report into our Head of Strategy and Operations - Legal, Risk & Insurance, Policy & Government Affairs.

You will:

  • Provide operational support for the various programs and projects that the Legal Operations function handles including but not limited to e-billing, outside counsel management, general legal process and support activities
  • Oversee the outside counsel and vendor management program, including onboarding, invoice review and processing, and timekeeper rate reviews to ensure compliance with billing guidelines
  • Become a subject matter expert and serve as the primary point of contact for assistance for the legal team's core technology stack including the matter management system, IP management system, eBilling system, electronic signature tool, and the Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) platform
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate centralized knowledge management resources and draft process and procedure documentation
  • Identify and lead opportunities for process improvement, exploring and integrating approved AI tools to drive and streamline the implementation of workflows, automation, and best practices to increase the team's efficiency and scalability
  • Assist in legal budget planning process, including monthly accruals, forecasting, and variance analysis in partnership with the Finance department
  • Manage domestic and international corporate governance records , including preparing and executing state and local business filings

You have:

  • 3+ years of experience in legal operations, legal technology with focus on automation and AI, and the use of technology in case management, eBilling, and matter management
  • Experience as a corporate paralegal, either at a law firm or in an in-house legal department. Demonstrated expertise with corporate entity management, including state filings, business license filings, and corporate governance
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Legal Studies, Information Systems, Business, or equivalent practical experience)
  • Strong project management skills with a proven ability to manage competing priorities and drive projects to completion in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to to effectively work and collaborate with cross-functional teams such as finance, policy, operations, tax, HR, and other in-house teams

We prefer:

  • 5+ years of experience, including paralegal experience supporting a legal sub-team such as corporate, privacy, or commercial.
  • Advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., Legal Studies, Information Systems, Business, or equivalent practical experience)
  • Experience working in a high-growth, high-tech environment, particularly in the autonomous vehicle, software, or hardware industries.
  • Demonstrated strong technical skills including API integration, system administration, and workflow automation
  • Experience using AI/ML applications and hands-on experience with LLM tools as it relates to legal operations
  • Direct involvement in the selection and implementation of a new legal technology or analytics platform

The expected base salary range for this full-time position across US locations is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level.
