In legal specialties at PwC, you will focus on legal support and advice across specific areas of law, confirming compliance and mitigating legal risks for the organisation. Your work will involve a wide range of specific legal matters and collaborate with different teams to drive business objectives.

 Role Purpose 

The Legal Manager is responsible for the day-to-day management, delivery, and commercial management of legal/corporate secretarial engagements within the Firm. The role combines technical legal expertise, people leadership, client relationship management, and commercial oversight, ensuring high-quality service delivery aligned with global professional standards and local regulatory requirements. 

The Legal Manager acts as a trusted advisor to clients, a coach to junior team members, and a key contributor to the Firm’s growth and profitability within the Caribbean market.

Key Responsibilities 

Client Engagement and Legal Advisory 

  • Lead and manage end-to-end legal engagements, from scoping and proposal development through execution and close-out. 

  • Provide high-quality legal advice within the Firm’s niche practice area, ensuring compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and professional standards. 

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned clients, maintaining strong, trusted relationships. 

  • Identify legal, regulatory, and commercial risks and provide practical, business-focused solutions. 

 

People Leadership and Supervision 

  • Supervise, mentor, and develop junior lawyers and legal professionals, including: 

  • Work allocation and review 

  • Technical guidance and coaching 

  • Performance feedback and development planning 

  • Foster a high-performance, ethical, and collaborative team culture aligned with the Firm’s values. 

  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and capability development initiatives as required. 

 

Engagement Economics and Financial Management 

  • Manage engagement budgets, ensuring projects are delivered within agreed scope, timelines, and fee arrangements. 

  • Monitor utilisation, recovery rates, and write-ups/write-downs, escalating risks proactively. 

  • Contribute to pricing strategies and fee proposals in collaboration with Partners and leadership. 

  • Ensure accurate and timely billing, working closely with finance and administration teams. 

 

Business Development and Market Growth 

  • Actively support the Firm’s business development initiatives, including: 

  • Preparing proposals and pitch materials 

  • Participating in client meetings and presentations 

  • Identifying cross-service opportunities within the broader professional services firm 

  • Build and maintain a strong professional network across the Caribbean, including regulators, clients, and industry stakeholders. 

  • Contribute to thought leadership, seminars, publications, or training sessions relevant to the Firm’s niche practice. 

 

Risk and Quality 

  • Ensure all work complies with internal quality standards, risk management policies, and professional obligations. 

  • Identify and escalate conflicts of interest, independence issues, and regulatory risks. 

  • Support internal reviews, audits, and regulatory inquiries as required. 

Key Skills and Competencies 

  • Strong legal and analytical skills with the ability to apply law in a commercial and client-focused manner 

  • Proven people management and coaching capability 

  • Solid understanding of engagement economics, budgeting, and financial performance 

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 

  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent engagements 

  • Professional judgement, integrity, and discretion in handling sensitive matters 

  • Core corporate legal expertise 

 

 Qualifications and Experience 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) or equivalent; admission to practice in a Caribbean jurisdiction (or eligibility to practice) is required 

  • Minimum 6–8 years’ post-qualification experience, ideally within: 

  • A law firm, professional services firm, or 

  • A multinational or regulated environment 

  • Prior experience supervising junior professionals is strongly preferred 

  • Exposure to regional or cross-border matters is an asset
