Accountabilities:
Manage complex legal matters involving Government Contracts, Competition Law, and major industry regulatory themes.
Strategic Litigation Oversight: Review and steer strategies for Tax, Labor, Civil, Administrative, and Criminal matters to protect value and reduce exposure.
Legal Team Leadership: Plan, coordinate, and develop the legal team, balancing workload, availability, and growth to deliver consistent, high-caliber outcomes.
External Counsel Management: Select, brief, and manage providers to assure quality and cost discipline, aligning resources to business priorities.
Legal Risk Management: Identify and manage current and potential legal risks, including those tied to strategic initiatives, enabling confident decision-making.
Contracting Excellence: Draft, negotiate, manage, and renegotiate complex agreements that support innovation and commercial goals.
Governance and Quality Assurance: Implement and manage legal governance tools; own internal and external QA for administrative processes to ensure reliability and compliance.
Process Improvement: Drive continuous improvements that increase quality, efficiency, and consistency, while reducing costs and managing risk across the function.
Senior Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate regularly with senior legal leadership to align priorities, escalate risks, and represent the Legal leadership team’s perspective.
Business Partnering: Build trusted relationships with business areas, provide practical counsel, and embed legal considerations into everyday decision-making.
Corporate Matters: Review strategies for corporate topics to ensure alignment with business objectives and regulatory expectations.
Regulatory, IP, and Data Protection Support: Support internal clients on regulatory issues, trademarks and patents, and LGPD to safeguard assets and data.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Ensure seamless integration with other legal support areas so clients experience a unified, proactive service.
Innovative Arrangements and Special Projects: Personally handle select matters and special projects, applying creativity to enable new business models.
Essential Skills/Experience:
Experience in pharmaceutical, healthcare, or other highly regulated, multinational environments.
Fluency in Portuguese and English; Spanish is a plus.
Management of strategic cases, extracting key insights from data analysis to map trends.
Management of the legal team, including workload planning and coordination.
Management of external service providers, ensuring quality and cost.
Regular communication with senior legal leadership.
Ensuring awareness of relevant administrative procedures across the Legal function.
Responsibility for administrative process quality assurance, including internal and external QA.
Driving improvements to administrative processes to increase quality, efficiency, and consistency, reduce costs, and manage risks
Drafting, managing, and renegotiating complex contracts.
Reviewing strategy for Tax, Labor, Civil, Administrative, and Criminal litigation.
Continuous communication with business areas, acting as a business partner in decision-making.
Implementation and management of legal governance tools
Reviewing strategy for corporate matters.
Supporting internal clients with regulatory, trademarks and patents, and LGPD matters.
Manages the delivery of legal advice and services to the assigned AZ client area and/or business area.
Closely aligns with senior AZ client leaders.
Identifies and manages present and potential legal risks in the assigned areas, including risks associated with strategic initiatives.
Delivers the appropriate level of service, from internal and external resources, at the lowest possible cost.
Personally handles legal matters and innovative business arrangements.
Represents the views of the Legal SMT to the Legal Function.
Ensures collaboration with other Legal support areas to ensure a seamless service to clients.
Handles special projects assigned by the senior legal team.
Effective Prioritization, ability to manage multiple priorities and complex workflows.
Uses critical thinking, proactivity, and creativity to identify legal risks and propose commercially viable solutions.
Familiarity with relevant industry topics, including: Intellectual Property (IP); PDPs and complex agreements with industry stakeholders; Product launch legal support; Government contracting and public procurement; Antitrust and Competition Law; Regulatory compliance and Pricing regulation.
Desirable Skills/Experience:
Track record using data and dashboards to guide litigation strategy, spend, and outcomes.
Proficiency with legal technology and governance platforms.
Demonstrated ability to lead change and embed new processes at scale.
Strong negotiation skills across complex commercial arrangements.
Comfort operating in agile, fast-paced settings with cross-functional teams.
