šŸ—ļø ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Legal Counsel at Solve, you’ll be at the center of our continued expansion in the legal market, playing a pivotal role in extending our legal team to the US and ensuring legal compliance, mitigating risks, and supporting our dynamic business operations. You will partner closely with our commercial and product teams across a broad range of matters.

Your core responsibilities will include:

  • Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide variety of commercial contracts
  • Conducting security and privacy reviews for customers and vendors
  • Advising on legal compliance across multiple jurisdictions
  • Supporting product development with practical, business-oriented legal guidance
  • Identifying and mitigating legal and regulatory risks
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including commercial, operations, and engineering
  • Working independently across time zones while coordinating closely with our GC, CEO, and CTO in New York and London
  • Proactively developing solutions to novel legal issues arising from our mission to revolutionize legal work worldwide

We are a young company of highly motivated, ambitious, and hard-working individuals building a billion-dollar business. Our fundamental motivation is to build a state-of-the-art AI product to assist humans in generating intellectual property and to have mass market adoption of our software.

To thrive in this environment, you’ll have the following characteristics and responsibilities:

  • Be able to work closely with others in our commercial and product teams on strategic as well as day-to-day legal matters, including with new products and services, processes, contracts, partnerships, security reviews, etc.
  • Draft and negotiate commercial contracts.
  • Actively assess and address privacy risks, ensuring alignment with applicable data protection regulations; and
  • Help building efficient and scalable processes to meet legal and regulatory requirements and drafting policies and guidelines to help teams proactively design and build requirements into products and processes.

WHO YOU’LL WORK WITH

Sanj (Chief Research Officer and co-founder): Sanj did his MSci in Physics at the University of Cambridge and his PhD in AI at the Gatsby Unit, UCL. He won awards at top AI conferences, worked on the R&D team at Huawei, and received widespread attention for his contributions to open-source LLM GitHub projects. He joined Magic Carpet AI as employee #4, where he developed AI strategies for trading which deployed millions of capital before being acquired by Blockchain.com.

Chris (Chief Executive Officer and co-founder): Chris did his undergrad at Imperial College, masters at the University of Cambridge, and PhD at UCL, during which he published 10+ publications and won awards in top AI conferences and journals. He has worked in leading tech organisations, including Dyson, The Alan Turing Institute, and InstaDeep before its acquisition by BioNTech.

Angus (Chief Technology Officer and co-founder): Angus did an MEng in Computer Science at the University of Bristol where he won a cyber security scholarship at GCHQ before working at Qualcomm. He then joined a London-based hedge fund, Coremont (Brevan Howard). There, he led a small team to build a greenfield trade processing platform which scaled to millions of trades per day.

Justin (General Counsel): Justin did an undergrad in chemical engineering from University of Wisconsin, and a JD from Georgetown Law. He previously worked at Quarles before joining as founding member of our legal and product team.

You’ll also work with the rest of our super talented team of AI researchers, software engineers, patent attorneys, and go-to-market experts.

šŸ› ļø WHAT YOU BRING

As our Legal Counsel, you will have extensive experience with contract negotiations and legal compliance.

Must haves:

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school and qualified to practice law as in-house counsel in the State of New York.
  • 5+ years of experience at a top-tier law firm and/or as an in-house legal counsel.
  • Strong experience negotiating B2B SaaS agreements and supporting commercial teams. You’re an excellent negotiator.
  • Strong legal judgment and confidence in making decisions independently.
  • Experience in handling corporate matters and drafting and negotiating complex commercial agreements.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with data privacy matters, IT security and/or corporate law.
  • Experience with AI and legal issues around AI regulation and compliance
  • Experience with product and providing legal advice on product related issues
  • Admitted to practice before the USPTO
