Your specific responsibilities will include:
- Research a wide range of laws including those related to product compliance across different product categories, consumer protection law, competition law & general trade and implement and monitor regulatory compliance processes across the business.
- Ensure appropriate monitoring and oversight is in place to constantly improve and test the effectiveness of the overall regulatory and compliance program across teams and the business.
- Provide clear legal advice and guidance to the business as well as teams within the business.
- Understand the regulatory and compliance environment that the business operates in, in order to effectively engage with a broad range of external and internal stakeholders in providing legal advice and guidance.
- Develop and maintain regular contact with government, policymakers, regulators, industry associations and where necessary respond to their enquiries.
- Support the Corporate Affairs in building positive relationships with policymakers and assist in driving Takealot Group’s advocacy efforts across multiple government departments, regulators and industry associations.
- Support legal compliance across the business in adherence to South African business operational requirements as well as applicable international business requirements by implementing policies and procedures related to legal compliance and key risk areas.
- Policy drafting and review including commercial contract review and input insofar as it relates to regulatory compliance and legal compliance.
- Work in a diverse and cross-functional team.
- Develop and implement a regulatory and compliance training and communications program that raises awareness and educates employees.
- Collect information and data and report on the status of the compliance program to management and shareholders.

Qualifications & Experience:
- LLB, admitted attorney or advocate in South Africa
- 5-7 years post-admission experience at the bar, a well-established law firm, or in the in- house legal department of a large corporate including experience in governmental affairs or corporate policy roles.
- Experience in regulatory and/or compliance law is essential
Preferred:
- Experience in e-commerce would be ideal
