Major Duties:

  • The United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Middle District of Louisiana is seeking a highly qualified candidate to fill a Legal Assistant (Grand Jury) position. For this position, you will be responsible for providing a variety of technical legal assistance services in support of in complex Grand Jury matters. Typical duties include, but are not limited to: Preparing legal actions such as indictments, criminal complaints, search warrants, judgments, applications, notices, affidavits, summonses, grand jury subpoenas, rules to show cause, proofs of claim and satisfaction of judgment. Preparing trial exhibits such as statistical charts, graphs, and timelines to be presented in court. Aiding in preparing and organizing discovery and evidence in paper copies and electronically and may present the exhibits using trial presentation software in court. Tracking filings, hearings, trial dates, and scheduling conferences and interviews. Preparing a wide variety of legal correspondence, reports, and other documents, many of which are voluminous and complex in format. Independently researching, evaluating, and coordinating information to establish the facts and issues of specific litigation cases, using a comprehensive knowledge of specialized legal processes.

Qualifications: GS-08: To be qualified at the GS-08 grade level in federal service, you must have at least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in federal service performing advanced legal support work and training other legal staff; examining new legal cases for completeness, adequacy and consistency with applicable laws and regulations; conducting extensive searches of records, reference, or historical material; preparing and reviewing legal documents needed for litigation such as complaints and evidentiary exhibits; and utilizing various software applications to produce written documents and materials.
