As a Legal Assistant at Cook, Barkett, Ponder & Wolz, you will play a vital role in managing litigation support tasks to help our attorneys deliver unparalleled legal service. This position is crucial for maintaining the momentum and organization of our cases, allowing our legal team to focus on advocacy and results. You will be instrumental in providing comprehensive support that enhances our client's journey toward achieving justice.
What you’ll do:
- Case Management: Proactively manage deadlines, follow-ups, and documentation for ongoing cases.
- Calendar Coordination: Keep the litigation calendar updated, scheduling depositions and preparing necessary documents.
- Record Keeping: Order and track medical records efficiently, ensuring all details are filed neatly for easy access.
- Communication: Coordinate with experts and opposing counsel, maintaining clear and professional communication.
- Document Drafting: Draft initial discovery documents for attorney review and revision, adhering to firm standards.
- Daily Operations: Use Filevine and Office 365 to maintain organized, accessible case files; ensure compliance with firm procedures.
- Client Interaction: Engage professionally with clients, contributing to a positive and supportive client experience.
What we’re looking for:
- Experience: Minimum 3 years in personal injury litigation, with exposure to federal court and trucking/CMV cases as a plus.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Filevine and Microsoft 365, with the ability to learn and adapt quickly to new tools.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; confident and calm in adversarial situations.
- Organizational Ability: Highly organized and efficient, adept at managing multiple priorities and shifting gears swiftly.
- Proactive Attitude: Self-sufficient and proactive in seeking out tasks and ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
- Team Player: Ability to collaborate effectively within a team while working independently to achieve goals.
- Onsite Engagement: Thrives in an in-office role where collaboration and direct engagement with colleagues are integral to success. It is intended to transition to fully in-office in the near future.
