This role is accountable for providing legal advice in the Old Mutual Wealth business, specifically supporting the business resilience team. In addition to the minimum requirements set out below, this individual is innovative, enthusiastic, and professional and acts with the utmost integrity, with high standards of quality, and performs well under pressure.
Key responsibilities will include amongst others the following:
Legal
- Manage the provision of a significant legal service specialty.
- Conducts or participates in legislative interpretation where required.
- Provides legal opinions/comments on legislation.
- Involved in the drafting of contracts and other documents required by the business unit/ segment.
- Management and drafting of contacts and mandates on the CAT I, CAT II and CAT III licenses.
- Drafting and/ or vetting of offshore Fund Manager agreements, service level agreements, outsource agreements, custodian agreements, binder agreements, IT agreements and Administration Agreements, for the Old Mutual Wealth cluster of businesses, including Collective Investment Schemes, Retirement Funds, Administrative Financial Services Providers, Multi-Manager businesses, Discretionary Fund Managers, Life Companies and its Juristic Representatives.
Information and Business Advice
- Provide specialist advice on the interpretation and application of policies and procedures, resolving complex or contentious queries and issues and enabling others to take appropriate actions.
Document Preparation
- Write and edit material for various target populations, tailoring the tone and content to match the needs and expectations of each audience.
Internal Communications
- Develop and/or deliver a plan for significant aspects of internal communications with guidance from senior colleagues.
External Communications
- Manage certain aspects of the external communications system with some guidance from senior colleagues. This could mean being responsible for the development or operation of the system.
Recommendations
- Advise others on how to design new processes and systems that meet professional standards.
Internal Client Relationship Management
- Manage relationships with internal clients and act as a business partner to them, building high levels of professional credibility and mutual trust, and managing the deployment of appropriate internal and/or external resources to support in delivering business strategy and plans.
Personal Capability Building
- Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation, or operational management for the team.
- Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging external regulation and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.
Qualifications and Experience required:
- LLB or CFP or BCom/equivalent degree required.
- Investment Management Qualifications is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years in a wealth investment and asset management industry.
- Experience in advising MANCO’s, LIPS’s and DFM’s.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Ability to articulate well and communicate with stakeholders across all levels, particularly senior and executive management.
- Excellent analytical and writing skills with attention to detail, logical thought processes and sound judgment and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of all information both from internal and external sources.
- Excellent organisational, people, planning and prioritising skills.
