About the role

Our Learning & Development team helps people build the skills they need to do great work and grow their careers. We focus on practical, relevant learning that supports HL’s goals and gives colleagues the confidence to adapt and succeed.

As a Learning & Development Designer you will design visually engaging, accessible, and impactful learning materials that support the delivery of high-quality learning experiences across the organisation.

By combining creative design expertise with a learner-first mindset, the role ensures that complex ideas are communicated clearly and effectively. The core value of this role lies in the ability to craft outstanding visual content that enhances how colleagues learn and grow.

What you’ll be doing

  • Lead the design and production of high-impact learning materials that make complex topics simple, engaging and easy to remember (e.g., slide decks, workbooks, infographics, elearning assets, videos, animations)

  • Collaborate with L&D colleagues and subject matter experts to translate complex concepts into clear, learner-friendly visuals and interactive experiences

  • Develop creative concepts for learning campaigns, ensuring all designs align with HL brand guidelines and accessibility standards

  • Create and maintain e-learning modules, digital assets, infographics, videos, animations and other media using appropriate tools and software

  • Enhance existing learning materials by applying design principles that improve clarity, flow, and learner engagement, ensuring consistency across all learning channels

  • Ensure high standards of design quality, accuracy, and usability

  • Seek and respond to feedback from learners, stakeholders and peers to continually raise the quality and effectiveness of materials

  • Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, balancing creativity with timely delivery and accuracy

  • Keep up to date with design trends, learning technologies and emerging tools to enhance the visual impact of learning experiences

About you

You’ll ideally have experience in a fast-paced Learning and Development role, with strong operational and design skills and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the business.

Essential:

  • Proven experience in graphic design, ideally within a learning context

  • Experience with e-learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate Storyline, Rise)

  • Animation and video editing skills

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Creative and innovative thinker with a learner-first mindset

  • Organised and deadline-driven

  • Passionate about using design to make learning more engaging and effective

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a Financial Services background, having an understanding of regulatory requirements and contextual obligations

  • Understanding of adult learning principles and how design supports learning outcomes

  • Proficiency in design software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma)

We are based in Bristol, BS1 5HL. This role is a permanent role and full time. For this role we offer a hybrid flexible working pattern to allow you the flexibility of working from home and coming into the office.
