Job Description:

Airbus Americas, Inc is looking for a Lean and Continuous Improvement Expert to join our team based in Mobile, AL.

As a Lean and Continuous Improvement Expert, you will be an internal reference to drive and enable the achievement of business excellence by the application of the business improvement fundamentals, based on lean and right first time lean principles, and associated methods and approaches such as Lean / Operating systems, Problem Solving and Quality Standards.

You will develop and contribute to the evolution and maintenance of the improvement referential, and leads the transfer and coaching of improvement concepts, principles, tools & techniques, and the development of autonomy/competency in the business.

Your Working Environment:

On ‘Airbus Way’ you will find the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility for commercial aircraft. Opened at the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley in 2015, the facility produces A320 Family aircraft and added a second product line for the A220 in 2019. Your Challenges:

Position Summary:

The Lean Improvement Expert (Kaizen coordinator) contributes directly to the Airbus Competitiveness strategy by defining and deploying improvement initiatives within the Autonomous Production Team & Business Unit. The Lean Improvement Expert must have a deep knowledge of lean principles and a proven shop-floor experience in Manufacturing, you will identify optimization or improvement potential impacting the Recurring Costs (RC) with piloted,
standardized & sustainable solutions based on Lean and Airbus Operating System principles. Lean Improvement Expert must be able to lead Improvement Routine & Kaizen Workshop and lead improvement changes with Station leader & Autonomous Production Teams (APT) and Business unit leaders & Extended APT.
 

Your Challenges:

Accountable for the identification of pain points and improvement initiatives maturity of the Business unit level:10%

  • Work closely with Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, AOS community, Q-

  • Improvement

  • Prepare and organize Kaizen event - per MFT / Station

  • Run improvement initiatives

  • Contribution to the Tactical Implementation Plan (TIP)

  • Report Efficiency per Station & MFT

  • Secure RC driver model


Support RC improvement Strategy and Governance: 10 %

  • Prepare & co-facilitate RC Governance

  • Facilitate workshops (kaizen, VSM etc)

Deployment RC strategy & initiatives: 70 %

  • Develop TIP for RC improvements in the area

  • Coordinate with MFT members improvement workshops to analyze the result of Time studies and identify efficiency improvement actions.

  • Work closely with PPE & ME team to identify white space, red space improvement opportunities]

  • Work closely with the Manufacturing Engineering team to identify process improvement opportunities.

  • Report weekly basis to the HO Performance & Competitiveness and provide concrete improvement opportunities.

  • Take ownership of the Productivity Improvement Idea (PII) brick of the assigned area.

  • Lead improvement projects in the area assigned (Coming out of Performance & QPS routines)

  • Promoting the use of internal good practices and external benchmarking by acting transversally with the extended manufacturing communities. Link with existing AOS, ME, IE, Q-Improvers teams to keep alignment

Support of Efficiency Assessment and Improvement: 10 %

  • Lead Efficiency assessments maturity at Station level integrating operations performance

  • Identify & gather improvements

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Other duties as assigned

  • Lead industrial task forces/Project on need basis: diagnosis, solution definition and implementation, results achievement

  • Develop, moderate and chair workshops within the FAL to resolve business and cultural issues respectively.

  • Using validated samples to identify, communicate and promote the use of Lean tools and techniques for effective problem-solving at all levels.

  • Other Duties as per the needs of the areas.

Your Boarding Pass:

  • Bachelor’s degree in aerospace, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, or similar discipline. May substitute the Bachelor's degree for an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Master’s degree is preferred.

  • At Least 7+ years of experience in a manufacturing or logistics environment is required.

  • A minimum of 3 years of prior experience in a leadership role in a manufacturing or logistics environment or 3 plus years of prior change agent experience.

  • Requires experience in quality tools, problem solving and process optimization (Lean / six sigma Green Belt or equivalent)

  • Requires experience in leading or actively participating in lean manufacturing workshops such as kaizen, VSM, SMED, 5S, etc...

Licensure/Certifications:

  • Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt Level desired
