Job Summary: This position is located in Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts, in the Division of House Management. The incumbent assists in the management of services for theater patrons and manages an usher staff. The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for Wolf Trap National Park for the Performing Arts is April-December but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 2026.

Major Duties:

  • The major duties of the Lead Usher, GS-0303-05 position include, but are not limited to, the following: Communicates the Park's mission, vision, and values to the team. Verbalizes to the team their role at the park and the customers service expectations of each employee along with time schedules and constraints they must follow. Instructs the team in theater protocol, appropriate problem-solving methods and techniques, communicates what the chain of command is for evaluating issues and determining acceptable solutions. Leads the team by providing feedback, distributing and balancing workload and tasks among employees and volunteers to satisfy front-of-the-House operational requirements in accordance with established workflow and skill level. Makes adjustments to accomplish the workload in accordance with established priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks; and ensures that each employee has an integral role in interacting with the public. Organizes the training of team members in methods and techniques of team building and working in teams to accomplish tasks and provides or arranges for specific administrative or technical training necessary for accomplishment of individual and team tasks. Develops curriculum and content of three-day annual training program for paid usher staff and one-day training programs for volunteer ushers. Presents usher training sessions and recruits appropriate speakers to augment training.

Qualifications: All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/22/2025-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Experience at this level must include all of the following: Performs a full range of standard and non-standard clerical assignments and resolving a variety of non-recurring problems. Work includes a variety of assignments involving different and unrelated steps, processes, or methods. Provides leadership and assists in the management of services for staff and meets with the management team to identify needed skills, formulates guidelines for the theater, and develops effective working relationships with personnel within the park for planned events. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least four years of education above high school (120 semester hours or 180 quarter hours). You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take education percentage. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies". Experience listed as full-time will be credited at 40 hours per week. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
