Job Summary: About the Position: Serve as a Uniform Business Office (UBO) Lead Technician for Naval Medical Center in Portsmouth, Virginia Directorate of Resource Management. This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Major Duties:

  • Perform various functions which support all phases of the Medical Affirmative Claims, Third Party Liability, Medical Services Accounts, Third Party Collections Elective Cosmetic Surgery and Inter-Agency Billing programs.
  • Plan, direct and schedule work with the assistance of the UBO Manager and Supervisor.
  • Assign work to be accomplished.
  • Assist with under-paid or unpaid claims.
  • Compare account balances in various financial and billing information systems with related data to assure agreement.
  • Provide technical guidance to other personnel regarding assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Audit daily work for use of appropriate International Classification of Disease and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes, clinical rate, and payment posted to accounts and denial or reduced payments compliance guidelines.
  • Coordinate with the Inpatient Records staff to ensure inpatient records are approved in a timely manner and solicits verification of outpatient visit codes, when indicated, to facilitate efficient and expeditious billing.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes planning, scheduling and assigning work; preparing and submitting claims to responsible parties and utilizing automation systems to reconcile financial data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
