Join a dynamic team working with Agile (SAFe) to develop the next generation of Ultrasound Systems in the General Imaging and Primary Care product lines. The Lead System Designer plays a critical role in the design and maintenance of our diagnostic ultrasound product acting as the technical design lead. This role has design responsibility to deliver customer workflow, feature functionality, product quality, reliability, serviceability, manufacturability, regulatory, compliance, and cost.

This individual will oversee and approve design of new products and ensures ongoing maintenance and support of the design history of the product with a strong focus on safety and risk management. This position presents the opportunity to work with global Ultrasound development teams and will support digital business objectives and initiatives. Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

Duties include (but are not limited to):

  • Lead the design team and design control process in requirements development, design planning, evaluation, verification, validation, and design transfer. Strong focus to ensure delivering high quality product.
  • Ensure user requirements are properly translated into system requirements, designs, and test scenarios.
  • Work closely with Product Management, Clinical Team, and cross functional teams to develop user requirements and define and enforce architectural guidelines.
  • Work with global development and cross-functional teams to define requirements, reflecting user needs, risk mitigations, standards compliance, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide domain expertise to serve as the main connection between the hardware, systems, and software functions to deliver the highest quality product.
  • Identify opportunities for quality and productivity improvements and drive continuous process improvements to address those opportunities.
  • Coordinate with the Program Manager or Lead Program Integrator to plan the work of other engineers, such as creating work breakdown structures.
  • Coordinate with the scrum teams and feature leads in design planning and execution through the lifecycle of the project or program.
  • Broad influence over small to medium multi-disciplinary and/or cross-functional teams.
  • Drive design evolution across multi-generation product releases with an emphasis on platforming, re-use, and reliability.
  • Provide oversite and guidance of the resolution of issues within product development, field, and manufacturing issues. This includes leading and directing investigations to determine root causes, assessment of risks, and appropriate CAPA actions.
  • Owns overall product quality for product releases.
  • Execution of Risk Management processes and flow to requirements, leading to compliant and effective mitigation of product risks. 
  • Provide leadership and operate within Agile and the Scaled Agile Framework

Qualifications/Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or closely related discipline
  • 6 years relevant work experience
  • Proven ability to develop timely and effective solutions for challenging design problems
  • Demonstrated ability to pursue tasks to completion
  • Broad exposure to HW/SW/Systems design, and technical depth in one or more engineering disciplines (Electrical, Mechanical, Software, etc.)

  • Demonstrated ability to own and drive execution and burn down of critical tasks
  • Creative problem solver when presented with conflicting requirements, business demands and technical risks/issues
  • Knowledge of GE Healthcare tools and processes (engineering, sourcing, supply chain such as Agile, PDM, ALM, MyWorkshop, DOORS, Jama)
  • Change agent with energy, passion, and enthusiasm to drive change
  • Experience working in Agile or Scaled Agile Framework
  • Previous experience working with regulated medical products and/or Ultrasound
