What you will do- Provides day-to-day direction and assistance for sterile processing to provide sterile instruments and supplies in accordance with professional standards. Monitors the work of others and serves as a resource for Sterile ProcessingTechs by answering questions, researching issues, and resolving problems.
- Collaborates with technical staff in organizing daily workflow and patient care. Coordinates scheduling of staff and equipment/supplies as appropriate to meet surgery schedule needs, within budgetary and productivity requirements.
- Assists with on-the-job training, education and in-service programs to ensure a high level of technical skill and compliance with continuing education requirements. Provides input to manager regarding job performance.
- Coordinates the servicing of equipment and instrumentation including routine care and maintenance.
- Performs or oversees activities for the decontamination, assembly, packaging, processing, and sterilization of surgical instruments according to standards.
- Maintains and ensures adherence to the sterile field by applying principles of aseptic techniques in accordance with regulatory guidelines and infection control procedures.
- Effectively manages resources such as supplies and equipment. Plans and completes job responsibilities in an efficient and productive manner.
- Demonstrates professional work behavior and excellent customer service routinely in all interactions.
- Performs other job functions as assigned or requested.
Education/Formal Training Requirements- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Technical Degree or Diploma Surgical Technology
- Technical Degree or Diploma Sterile Processing
Work Experience Requirements- 3-5 years Sterile processing and/or surgical field
Licenses and Certifications Requirements- Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician
Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Extensive knowledge of methods and procedures in sterile processing, assembling and packaging of surgical instruments and supplies.
- Knowledgeable in surgical instrumentation and procedures.
- Knowledgeable in sterilization monitoring, record keeping, and quality assurance protocols.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment on decision making in resolving new or unusual problems related to the general or technical aspects of the job.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to function with little supervision, delegate work to others, and take initiative to resolve issues.
- Ability to communicate promptly, clearly and accurately in both written and oral form.
- Ability to organize tasks and maintain control of work flow.
- Work requires the ability to read and understand complex instructions and perform basic arithmetic calculations.
- May be required to float to other locations as needed.
Supervision Provided by this Position- Leads and guides sterile processing techs.
Physical Demands- The physical activities of this position may include climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion.
- Must have good balance and coordination.
- The physical requirements of this position are: medium work - exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 25 lbs. of force frequently.
- The Associate is required to have close visual acuity including color, depth perception, and field of vision to perform an activity, such as assessing patients, preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; or extensive reading.
- Exposure to patient body fluids as well as exposure to hazardous or poisonous materials.
- Ability to react quickly to emergency situations.
