Position Overview:

Boeing AI India team has an immediate opening for an Lead Software Engineer - AI/ML (Computer Vision/Perception) to join their team in Bangalore, KA. The selected individual will develop next generation machine perception solutions for aerospace applications. He/She/They will co-lead or participate in projects to support the development of engineering solutions to improve aircraft performance, increase the operational efficiency of aircraft fleet operators, improve/optimize the productivity of Boeing operations and manufacturing, simulate aircraft lifecycle scenarios for potential customers. In addition, the candidate will support senior members of the team in developing future vision and direction of Boeing’s AI development in the field of machine perception, robotics, machine learning, image/video processing, and their application to diverse areas relevant to Boeing.
 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Development of innovative, nonstandard approaches for perception systems in support of manufacturing, maintenance and operations. Applications will span manufacturing automation, mobile devices, cabin features and flight-deck automation. 

  • Own end-to-end development of perception pipelines for robotic and mobile platforms including, mobile robots, hand-held, and airborne. 

  • Implements GPU enabled solutions for indoor and outdoor localization, mapping, detection and segmentation. Using a variety of sensors including cameras, LiDAR, IMUs, and satellite navigation.

  • Designs perception rigs and associated lifecycle software including calibration and health management. Designs for field application.

  • Uses rapid-prototyping techniques to model and simulate perception systems including software and hardware in the loop testing.

  • Collaborates with ML teams to produce scalable perception solutions suitable for the acquisition of large datasets while minimizing labeling needs.

  • Working closely & collaboratively with an international team comprising software development and research engineers. Develop and maintaining relationships / partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and partners to develop collaborative plans and execute on projects.

  • Help in the adoption of new tools and technology, perform Proof-of-concepts and help engagements implement & take it over.

  • Documenting results of research and development projects, and provide inputs for periodic updates to in the form of progress reports, project summaries, and other related documents. Tracking and evaluating performance to ensure product and process conformance to project plans and project requirements.
     

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s is required as basic qualification.

  • 10+ years of overall work experience with 7+ years in computer vision, perception, and mobile sensor platforms.

  • Excellent presentation & communication skills: Demonstrate strong written, oral, presentation and interpersonal communication skills. 

  • Strong research background in innovating & developing technologies & solutions in machine perception with an experimental track record
     

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Masters / Ph.D. (desired) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related discipline from a reputed academic institution.

  • Track record in performing and leading research & development of highly innovative AI-driven solutions for difficult problems.

  • Expertise in building and productizing perception solutions.

  • Strong 3D computer vision fundamentals: calibration, multi-view geometry, photogrammetry.

  • Experience with sensor fusion and state estimation, tracking, localization, multi-modal SLAM.

  • Expertise in working with mobile robotics platforms.

  • Experience with classical and ML-based computer vision techniques.

  • Must have programming experience in Python, C++, ROS, OpenCV, Open3D, GTSAM.

  • Cuda programming and embedded GPU development a plus.

  • Research publications or contributions to open source perception stacks.

  • ML experience with synthetic data generation / domain adaptation / self-supervised learning.

  • Solid software engineering practices: unit/integration testing, CI/CD, version control, and traceability to requirements.

  • Be a self-starter who is not afraid to pro-actively seek information and direction to successfully complete the statement of work.

  • Be self-motivated and able to work independently with a positive attitude and highest ethics.

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours (early or late as needed) to interface with Boeing personnel around the world.
     

Typical Education & Experience:

  • Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g. Masters) and typically 10 Plus years' related work experience or PHD Degree with 7+ years of experience with an equivalent combination of education and experience.
