Job Summary: This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a Lead Security Guard for DES, Access Control Branch located at Ft Leavenworth, KS.

Major Duties:

  • As a Lead Security Guard, you will be responsible for the following duties:
  • Function as the first layer of defense in a security-in-depth concept to deter, detect, delay, assess, respond, and document unauthorized access.
  • Responsible for safeguarding government personnel, property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction.
  • Make daily assignments to ensure that guard coverage is provided to assigned patrol areas.
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for the installation’s visitors which may include foreign nationals, government agents, elective officials, media and VIP's.
  • Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and provides on-the-job training to new employees in accordance with established procedures.
  • Serve as a member of the installation's overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents.

Qualifications: Who May Apply: US Citizens Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans' preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Specialized Experience required: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) controlling access of vehicles, visitors, and pedestrians into a facility such as a military installation; 2) using automated systems to query and/or verify suitability for visitor entry into a facility such as a military installation; and 3) safeguarding personnel, information, and/or property/critical assets in a federal, state, municipal, local, or private protective organization.. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
