Lead Registered Nurse (RN) - Operating Room - St. Francis Eastside
No Call, No Weekends, No Holidays
Shift: Schedule can be either 4-10 hour shifts or 5-8 hour shifts
Primary Function/General Purpose of Position
The Clinical Care Lead, under the direction of the unit Nurse Leader or Administrative Director Nursing, assists with supervising and coordinating the administrative and operational activities in the assigned areas. Collaborates with interprofessional team to ensure safe and effective care delivery while promoting a culture of excellence. The Clinical Care Lead is responsible for providing and/or promoting quality patient care. This role reviews patient quality data trends and works with the health care team to provide interventions in patient treatment plans as necessary.
Essential Job Functions
Leads a team of nurses and clinical support along with providing support to the manager/director on the unit. Performs managerial responsibilities 80% of time; works on ground support for frontline staff and assists in direct patient care as needed. Support and encourage harmonious working relationships and team building skills among the frontline nursing teams.
Assures the nursing process is utilized and documented in accordance with Joint Commission and other regulatory agency standards for each patient admitted or transferred to the nursing unit and that performance improvement standards are consistently met.
Facilitates professional relationships and encourages the development of accountability by assuring interaction, collaboration, sharing of knowledge, and providing appropriate and meaningful judgments that will have a positive impact on the delivery of patient care services on the unit
Reviews and analyzes patient care quality data for trends. Utilizes nursing process, assesses, plans, provides, and evaluates professional nursing care using evidence based practice or research.
Supervises and appropriately delegates tasks to other team members. Assumes charge role as required. Identifies and intervenes to address patient and family nursing care and educational needs. Accountable for daily team performance through supervision of staff, multi-disciplinary collaboration, and facilitation of pathway outcomes
Assists manager in the efficient operation of unit including fiscal and human resources to include planning and supervision of unit/department goals/objectives. Supports and monitors compliance of the team with meeting established productivity standards as defined by the unit.
Provides for age appropriate education and experiences for all clinical personnel, which will enhance personal, professional, and clinical development. Develops, implements, and participates in in-service programs.
Supports mission and vision of the organization and adheres to BSMH policies. BSMH nurses are expected to practice and deliver care in accordance with the core concepts and intention of the BSMH Nursing Professional Practice Model.
Participates in continuous quality improvement initiatives to include auditing of initiatives, education related to new or changes in existing quality initiatives, or enforcement of quality improvement processes and/or policies. Maintain awareness of quality initiatives that support competency of resources, safe environment, regulatory expectations, and a reduction of risks with unique plans for all areas of nursing practice; knowledgeable of all regulatory expectations and helps to achieve regulatory compliance for nursing.
Functions as a clinical resource person for frontline associates and demonstrate technical and clinical competencies in areas of responsibility. Serve as a resource to associates for evaluation of complex or unstable patients. Promotes critical thinking and effective problem solving in associates through example and reinforcement.
Follows proper channels of communication, anticipating and consistently handling daily routine problems while recognizing complex issues that need referral to the Director of the Unit, Administrative Director Nursing for the unit involved, the Associate Chief Nursing Officer or the Chief Nursing Officer. Identify problems/concerns and discuss them professionally. Consistently demonstrate openness to giving constructive feedback to frontline associates and be confident in capabilities to document in writing using organization’s behavioral management tools.
Demonstrate an excellent rapport with difficult and demanding customers to include patients, families, and visitors.
Advances the practice of nursing by implementing best practice interventions; use data measures to improve clinical outcomes for groups of targeted patient population; support and use nursing research; implement structures and processes for caregivers to influence improvements in their practice and to achieve hospital established key performance indicators.
Engages by embracing and supporting management decisions and organization initiatives. Supports new initiatives and changes and assists associates in understanding the rationales.

Licensing/Certification
Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of South Carolina (required)
BLS Basic Life Support (required)
One of the following certifications preferred:
PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support (preferred)
ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred)
NRP Neonatal Resuscitation Program (preferred)
TNCC Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum (preferred)
ENPC Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (preferred)
National Board Certification Specialty (preferred)
Nurse Executive Certification or designated specialty certification (preferred)
Education
Bachelor of Science Nursing (required)
Masters of Science in Nursing (preferred)
Work Experience
Supervisory and/or leadership experience generally obtained through a charge nurse and/or hospital supervisor role (required)
2 years nursing experience with at least one-year minimum experience in the acuity level of desired area (preferred)
Training
Professional Nurse Advancement Program within the first year in the role and maintain (required)
