Position Overview
The Lead Referral Coordinator provides support to Referral Coordinators while helping to facilitate excellent customer service and efficient workflows. This role is responsible for monitoring incoming orders and ensuring adherence to guidelines for scheduling appointments with specialists, consults, and radiology services, while assisting with day-to-day operations of the Patient Access Services team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide support to the outside orders team in the absence of the Supervisor of Patient Access Services
- Assist in training and orienting new and existing employees
- Oversee daily department functions including phone coverage, scheduling, and staff presence
- Monitor supplies and notify management when replenishment is needed
- Oversee equipment service needs and coordinate repairs as necessary
- Provide direction to staff regarding scheduling questions or issues
- Monitor and assign work tasks
- Update patient information as needed
- Provide feedback and recommendations to management regarding employee performance
- Monitor staff adherence to departmental and organizational policies and procedures
- Maintain professionalism and ensure confidentiality of patient and employee information
- Collaborate with management, support teams, and staff
- Perform all other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Required:
- Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years of experience in the healthcare industry and/or customer service environment or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Knowledge of payer networks and guidelines
Preferred:
- Prior management experience
